Belmonte selected in national youth squad

- Sam Bartlett

ORANGE tenpin bowling prodigy Jason Belmonte has landed himself a spot in the Australian under 23 youth team after finishing first at trials staged in Canberra on the weekend.

Belmonte led for the majority of the competition and after 24 games finished with an average of 212.

The trials were quite competitive as the best bowlers from Australia were there, Belmonte said.

The lanes were graded as the FIQ condition (world lane condition) so it was really hard.

Joining Belmonte in the Australian under 23 team are Jarrod Lean (Central Coast), Chris Warner (Sydney) and Brandon Qualischefski (Qld).

The team will be heading to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to contest the World Championships from July 11.

The Australian selection comes hot on the heals of Belmonte, who has an amazing seven perfect games to his credit, winning the Orange Junior Sportsperson of the Year title.
