Yes, the rumors are true. If you've heard that Monica will not play the European Championships, you heard correctly. She pulled out of the tournament, siting a shoulder injury. For more information click EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS for an onsite article.

The MoniChronicle
Monica was a double winner at the Princess Cup this year. She beat Arantxa 4-6 6-3 6-4, in a grueling and exciting and, for Monica, very long singles final match. It lasted 2hrs. 17min. About twice as long as her usual one hour in-and-out matches. Monica now has a 17-3 match lead over Arantxa, but expresses nothing but the highest respects for her opponent. "She's a fighter, she never gives up and keeps improving. I'm a fighter too, and it brings out the best in both of us." Her best was definitely brought out in Japan, as she won not only the singles championship, but the doubles as well, with first-time partner Anna Kornikova, who said of the win (Anna's first title ever), "It feels great winning, especially with Monica."
Monica may be on her way to becoming the number one player in the world once again. "No one has had to stop halfway in their career," she said. But when asked if she thinks she can do it she simply says with a smile, "I think I can get there."
You go, Moni.
