University of Florida: Games of the Decade

Recently, John pointed out that Florida State has only 13 losses in the decade of the 90s, so as an exercise he picked out the best 13 FSU wins from 1990-1999. Florida's task is a little more arduous, needing 22 wins to match its 22 losses in the 90s. Rather than bore you with that (though I could certainly do it!), I set to the task of matching John's 13 with 13 of my own. When that became just too difficult, I settled on the top 15.

As it happened, 3 of the selections came from the 1991 and 1996 seasons, and 1 or 2 came from every other year except 1998, when I could find no games worthy of inclusion (the closest being Florida's convincing win over Syracuse in the Orange Bowl). I was biased to try and unearth one win from each season (despite my failure in 1998), otherwise the 1999 victory highlighted might have been replaced with a more memorable game (the 1993 win over Tennessee, or the Sugar Bowl trouncing of undefeated West Virginia later that season, for example).

Six opponents are represented. Not surprisingly, games against Florida State and Tennessee account for 8 of the 15. Alabama shows up three times, Kentucky twice (what?), Georgia and Auburn once each. For diversity's sake, I wanted to include the Citrus Bowl win over Penn State (1997 season), a memorable game for Fred Taylor's 200 yards rushing and UF's two goal line stands resulting in no Nittany Lions points, but the game didn't quite crack the list.
