Collision Course
Despite the fact Mick Doohan was going for his 5th straight championship and that Bathurst 1000 was on , a decent crowd still turned up for IWA's best show of 1998. The crowd were really into
the show , and really got into the "storylines" that make the promotion the best in Australia.

The first match seen TNT pinned Super Fire in a great highflying match to start off the show. A wrestling hardcore later said "this was the best match I have seen in 18 mths" and many didn't
argue that this was atleast Superfire's best match in Australia to date. He delivered a somoursault off the apron onto TNT at one stage in the match for a big pop. TNT delivered some great moves like a running Liger-like kick in the corner, followed with a moonsault for a close count. TNT eventually won with his highly successful "detinator". Superfire ala Dustin Rhodes threw his own gimmick in Promoter Terrible Tyrone's face in a despiteful I/view!!

Next Frank the Tank recieved his IWA Wrestling School Diploma from bully teacher, Steve Swann who whacked his student in the head with the treasured plaque. Other students ran into the ring
, including Iron Sheik's cousin The Aryan Warrior who challenged Swann to an impromtu match which saw the return of Graham Young as referee to oversee the result. The student showed his trainer some methods of his own, resulting in many close counts. Swann was really vicious on his sparring buddy, but the Warrior showed grit not to submit. Eventually Swann won with his dreaded "Swan Song". Swann is the greatest heel in Australia. No questions asked!!!

Mercedes then came out on crutches and said he COULD NOT DEFEND HIS GOLD in the main event against Thunder. IWA President CJ Flynn then demanded that Mercedes with his arsehole of a manager Curtis A. Hughes come out with a medical certificate to prove the
injury. The scene was set. Could Mercedes come up with the right details for the President.

Greg Stekker than took on "Ezy Rock" Ben Gold in a decent semi-main event. Greg had some great heel heat in a good match. Gold's partner Wild Style kept interfering and hassling the
referee in this match, often resulting in bad news for his partner. Stekker went to the top rope after Gold had kicked out of some of the closest 3 counts in IWA history. Wild Style grabbed the top rope and Stekker than crotched himself, with Gold having a chance for the win , however Gold was arguing with the referee. By the time he jumped down and Young started counting Stekker kicked out at 2. He than nailed the rookie with the cradle suplex for the win.

CJ Flynn then came out and demanded Mercedes' party deliver the goods. It came in the form of Dr Dave Meltzer, a very sus looking doctor, who had a piece of paper resembling a certificate. Thunder than came out and took the crooked Doc's outfit to reveal Quick Draw Formoza, pushing him out of the way resulting in Mercedes running in and assaulting Thunder with vicious crutch shot with the referee behind him to start the match. The crowd were really into this match. Curtis A. Hughes probably Australia's greatest ever manager kept interfering and distracting the ref, to aid his man Mercedes. At the end Mercedes went to the top for an ax-handle but Thunder nailed him in the guts. He followed this up with a clothesline off the second rope. He then put Mercedes up for the Thunder Bomb, however as ref Graham Young started to count Fermoza ran out and pulled him out of the ring and decked him on the outside, resulting in Curtis giving Mercedes some powder to throw at Thunder, which he did resulting in the quickest 3-count in history for an Australian Hvy Wt Title match. TNT ran in and gave Fermoza the "Detinator" to the delight of the fans, and Thunder gave Curtis a huge Thunder Bomb. Thunder's music than played to finish the crowd on a high note. Thunder also choke-slammed ring announcer Paris Tenana.

Matches were called by wrestling expert Ed Lock, Terrible Tyrone and IWA President CJ Flynn. As usual Ed Lock called the match straight down the middle and educated the fans to the moves of wrestling.

Many fans after the show said this was the best IWA show they had seen this year which is a huge compliment to already very impressive IWA. And remember the IWA will be back BIGGER and BETTER IN 1999.

See you at the next show!!!!!!!!
