The Canadian Country Music Association recently announced the nominess for this year's awards show which takes place in Calgary on Sept. 14 and will be broadcast on CTV.

If anyone had any concerns at how Shania Twain would come off this year, hereight nominations put that to rest.

There's a solid cast of characters for this year's show and in addition to the main set of awards we thought you'd like to look at some of the indepedent artists and musicians up for kudos. That's where you'll find a number of Ottawa area musicians .

HERE'S A LOOK AT THE CMA LIST:

Country Person of the Year: Ottawa based publisher of Country Music News Larry Delaney is again up for the award.

Recording Studio: Lakeside Studio in Clayton -- home of Tracey Brown and Randall Prescott is back in the race again.

Record Producer: Working out of Lakeside Studio, Jon Park Wheeler and Randall Prescott get a nomination for their work with both Tracey Brown and Tom Jackson.

Booking Agent/Talent Buyer: Hall of Famer Ron Sparling (The Family Brown), is again nominated in both categories. He's responsible for arranging for much of the country talent appearing in smaller communities in the Ottawa Valley.

SHANIA AND THE TOUR TRAIL:

Remember how excited everyone got when the Shania Twain tour was announced and we unfortunately thought there'd be an early date for Ottawa fans on the tour.

Well, the news keeps getting worse even though its not official.

There was some early talk that Twain would play here in Oct. but now we've heard the grapevine rumblings that the lady wouldn't be making it to our area until sometime next Mar.

On the high side of the tour trail, at least we've got a definite that superstar Alan Jackson will make it to the Corel Centre on Oct. with the surprising Deana Carter in tow.

Other tours to watch out for include Reba McEntire with Brooks & Dunn as well as Vince Gill (deadly new disc) with Patty Loveless.
