A career record of
473 wins and only 208 losses, 69.5%, and a record of 400
wins and 149 losses, 72.9 at Duke, making him the
winningest active coach in the ACC, is proof of his awesome
coaching ability. He is a 4 time winner of the ACC Coach of
the Year award, 84, 86, 87, 97, and a 5 time recipient of
the National Coach of the Year award, 86, 89, 91, 92 and
last year in 97. He has appeared in 7 Final Fours,
including 5 in a row from 88-92. Won 5 regular season ACC
crowns, 3 ACC Championships, and 2 National Championships,
91-92.
Personal
Mike was born February
13, 1947 in Chicago Illinois, just one generation remover
from Poland. Grew up in a working class family. His parents
stressed a good education even though they were not that
educated themselves. Gruaduated from Army '69. Resigned as
Captain in 1974. He now is married to wife, Mickie with
three daughters, Debbie-26, Lindy-19, and Jaime-15.
