Today's League of Wales fixtures

The harsh glare of the media spotlight will be cast upon Park Avenue this weekend, as last night Aberystwyth played their first home match since the surprise sacking of Meirion Appleton, who has managed the club for ten years of his career.

Caretaker-manager, Donald Kane, the club chairman who retired from playing after the club's 6-1 thrashing by Inter Cabletel, will have had a hard job on his hands today with the visit of Total Network Solutions, a club two places beneath Aber and intent on climbing higher. The postponement of Aber's match at Rhayader last week will have given the club a breather, but don't be surprised if their mid-Wales rivals from Llansantffraid made it a close match last night.

Caersws meet Inter Cabletel at the Recreation Ground this Saturday and will want to make up for their 6-0 drubbing at Leckwith Stadium back in November. That was the match which saw Inter retutn to form after an inconsistent start to the season. However, the Cardiff club may find it more difficult, with Caersws currently being one of the in-form clubs of the LoW.

Rhyl and Haverfordwest are both struggling at the wrong end of the table, but the home side will want to get revenge after being on the wrong end of a 5-2 defeat to the West Walians back in October. Haverfordwest striker, Richard Gay, was the man who caused the trouble that day, firing four goals. However, he hasn't been in such prolific form recently, and that may mean that Rhyl earn a point in front of their own fans.

Caernarfon, who still have one of the best home records in the LoW, entertain Cwmbran today. The Canaries will want to excise memories of a 6-0 drubbing at Cwmbran Stadium back in October. The North Walians are still chasing at the top of the table, but Cwmbran have got back into gear and will get a point, if not all three.

The important clash, though, is that at the bottom of the table, where Rhayader entertain Afan Lido at the Weirglodd. For both sides, a win is crucial, and if the pitch stands up to it, it should be a very interesting game. Today, the result is all important, and it would be no surprise to see the home side follow last year's Houdini act, by winning today and doing it all over again.

Connah's Quay Nomads entertain Conwy United at the Deeside Stadium, with both sides looking for a win to bolster their league position. The Nomads have been unlucky in recent weeks, and, on their own turf, they may be good enough to get a good result, and pull them away from the bottom of the league.

Our opponents, both last week and next week, Newtown, visit Carmarthen Town today. The Robins will want to take all three points at Richmond Park and push themselves up the table, while Tomi Morgan's side will want to get back to winning ways after a number of draws.

Holywell, who entertain Barry in a fortnight's time, are not playing today.
