TODAY'S OTHER FIXTURES

previewed by the Yellow Dragon

Still on top of the League of Wales, Aberystwyth return home again and face Caernarfon Town at Park Avenue in what is always an interesting match. Aber knocked Caernarfon out of the Welsh Cup prior to the formation of the LoW, and the Cofis are still looking for revenge. It does look to be a difficult week for Caernarfon, though, as following their trip down the coast to Park Avenue, they entertain Wrexham in an FAW Premier Cup match. The North Walians problem is that they have no recognized striker, and if Aber are able to neutralise the threat of Emrys Williams at corners and set pieces, then it is difficult to see Caernarfon winning. In contrast, Aber are scoring from all angles, and should pick up three points in front of a large crowd.

In West Wales, Carmarthen Town entertain Caersws. The mid-Walian side will want a boost before their cup replay here at Jenner Park on Tuesday, and their settled side is in their favour. However, Carmarthen's 6-2 thrashing of Connah's Quay is fair warning of what they can do. If Caersws's thoughts are on Tuesday and taking our scalp, then they may lose. A home win seems likely.

Afan Lido travel to the Deeside Stadium, with neither they nor their hosts, Connah's Quay, having won a match in the past few weeks. Both sides will look upon today as an ideal opportunity to stop their slide and pick up some points. Another reasonable sized crowd is expected at the Deeside Stadium, where Nomads's average attendance has considerably improved, but a draw seems on the cards as Afan Lido get used to traveling North for matches, and begin to apply themselves properly in the League of Wales.

Two sides near the bottom of the table play each other in North Wales on Saturday, as Conwy United entertain Inter Cable-tel. Neither side has set the world on fire this season, with Inter having an unexpectedly poor start, and sitting a place behind their hosts. On the basis of their early season results, both look destined to struggle this season, and today's match will help neither with a draw a predictable result.

Cwmbran entertain Haverfordwest today, with the visitors wishing to extinguish their memories of a 6-0 thrashing there last season. The West Walians have had a mixed bag of results this year, but then so have their hosts, who have lost both of their home matches this term. Nevertheless, with Cwmbran creeping up the table and fulfilling their pre-season billing as one of the favourites, it would be unexpected that they would lose again. A home win.

At Belle Vue today, Rhyl will also want to rid themselves of a 6-0 defeat, although playing at home to fifth placed Newtown is unlikely to provide the answer. Despite a few opening week jitters, Newtown have continued to play their trademark football, and with Rhyl's defence capitulating last week against TNS, it would be very surprising if the home side could get even a point today against the Robins. An away victory for Newtown.

Total Network Solutions aren't playing today, prior to our visit to Llansantffraid next week, while Holywell played Bangor City at Halkyn Road yesterday evening.
