TODAY'S OTHER LEAGUE OF WALES FIXTURES
The Yellow Dragon casts an eye over today's other important matches.
As the race for Europe remains hot, today's Match of the Day takes place at Latham Park, where Newtown take on Inter Cabletel. The Cardiff side have been going through a sticky patch in recent weeks, losing twice to Caersws and at Rhayader. They are currently lying in fourth spot, two points behind their opponents today. The game is likely to be as tight as their two most recent encounters, a 1-0 win for Inter at Latham Park and a 1-0 win for Newtown in Cardiff. However, Brian Coyne's side look to be on form, with their strikers on song. A home win is the most likely possibility.
Cwmbran have the change to wreak revenge upon Haverfordwest County, who, along with Barry, are the only sides to defeat the Crows since September. After taking a 1-0 lead in their recent encounter at Bridge Meadow, Cwmbran gave away two late goals to the home side. Following their impressive victory over Hoover Sports in last week's Welsh Cup, and needing points to stay in second in the LoW, this again seems likely to be a home win.
Another important game is that taking place at Welshpool between two of the sides in relegation trouble. Caernarfon are the visitors to Maes-y-Dref today, with the home side just three points behind the Canaries. The North Walians will still have several games in hand over the Lilywhites, but, with March approaching quickly, both sides are in desperate need for points to avoid the drop to the Cymru Alliance. Caernarfon will have to work hard to ensure that their Welsh Cup and Gilbert Cup successes does not go to their heads and that the club stay in the League of Wales. An away win.
Many people will be watching the match at Farrar Road today, where Bangor City take on Total Network Solutions. Bangor are now in fifth place, and will want to win in order to push for a European spot. T.N.S, in contrast, are fifth from bottom, and are out of the relegation zone only on goal difference. Also, both are clubs who may be playing Barry in future cup competitions. Obviously, we will be meeting T.N.S in the Welsh Cup, but Bangor are still in the Welsh Cup, Gilbert Cup and F.A.W Invitation Cup, and so eyes at Jenner Park today will also be sneaking a look at the score in Bangor. A home win.
The Battle of Belle Vue takes place today in Rhyl, as Connah's Quay Nomads entertain their landlords in the League of Wales. In their most recent LoW meeting, Chris Davies scored for the Nomads with the only goal of the game, and, as the two clubs contest sixth place in the table, today's game shuod be equally tight. Rhyl, however, have been suffering from problems, not least that of their manager switching to Total Network Solutions, and it remains to see how this will affect the club. Former Llandudno manager, and previously assistant at the club, Dean Martin, has taken over as boss. A draw seems a likely result.
Conwy will entertain Flint at the Morfa today, with the travelling side looking to move themselves out of the relegation places and to get revenge on their coastal neighbours. Conwy put six past Flint when the two sides met last month, although that would appear to be a freak result. Flint have won twice in recent weeks, doing the double over Porthmadog, and their need for points may well see them win today. However, again a draw may be the final result.
Cemaes Ynys Mon are now eight points adrift at the bottom of the LoW, and thirteen points away from safety from relegation. It's all beginning to look a little unlikely for the Anglesey club, who will be changing their name back to Cemaes Bay, in order to more accurately reflect the club. In their away match at Porthmadog today, only a Port victory looks likely, as they too fight against relegation. A home win.
Carmarthen's match with Aberystwyth was played last night, and so there is no need for any prediction.
