Unfortunately, even when it did begin, it wasn't to give Carmarthen all three points, with Cwmbran Town winning 2-0 at the Cwmbran Stadium.
However, that away win didn't transfer to their home match against Aberystwyth the following week, where, despite goals from another former Barry player, Paul Burrows, and Tony Rees, John Mahoney's side fell to a 5-2 defeat.
Again, though, away from home, Carmarthen took all three points, this time from a visit to Conwy. Paul Burrows and Richard Adams scored the goals in the 2-1 win.
The first home win came a week later, with a 6-2 crushing of Connah's Quay Nomads. Two goals came from Paul Burrows, with other goals coming from Nigel Nicholas, Richard Adams, Tony Rees and Gary James.
However, in their local derby in the Gilbert Cup, Carmarthen lost out 2-1 to Haverfordwest County, despite Paul Burrows bringing Carmarthen level midway through the first half.
September ended on a disappointing note, with the trip to Caernarfon ending in a 2-3 defeat. Burrows was again on the scoresheet, as was former Ebbw Vale player, Matthew Cable.
The first of those was a home defeat to Caersws, while the second was an away loss to Rhayader, who were under the management of Tomi Morgan.
However, Carmarthen's fortunes turned with the beginning of the Welsh Cup, even if it was difficult to see at the time. A home match against CC Sports League division two side Hoover Sports saw Carmarthen scrape through 2-1, with Paul Burrows the man responsible for the lucky escape.
The heavy storms at the end of October forced the cancellation of Carmarthen's home match with Total Network Solutions, but they returned to action with a goalless away draw at Newtown.
A home game against Bangor City resulted in a 2-1 defeat, despite another Paul Burrows goal, while a David Barnhouse goal at Holywell's Halkyn Road earnt a point in a 1-1 draw.
In the Welsh Cup, Carmarthen were paired with another minor CC Sports League side, Chepstow Town. The West Walians certainly made hard work of the third round tie, with Tony Rees and Paul Burrows scoring to end the game 2-2.
The return at Chepstow's Larkfields ground took place on a Wednesday afternoon, and it wasn't until late in the game that Carmarthen's progress was secured. Five different players were on the scoresheet that day in the 5-2 win, with the LoW side's fitness telling in the final 15 minutes, when they scored three goals. Tony Rees and Paul Burrows were two of the scorers, alongside former Barry player, Colin Loss, Nigel Nicholas and Gareth Phillips.
Despite that goal rush, Carmarthen were unable to maintain that form, and, bottom of the LoW, Rhyl scored a 90th minute winner in a 2-1 result at Richmond Park a few days later. Tony Rees was again the goalscorer. However, for manager, John Mahoney, it was enough and he resigned from his post after two years, saying that he had taken the club as far as he could as manager.
Morgan's first match in charge was that against Barry Town, with the new man having an excellent start with a 2-1 win. Dean Rossitter scored the first goal, and Richard Adams the winner.
With only one further match being played in December, Carmarthen ended the year on a high note, with a 2-1 away win at Haverfordwest County. Richard Adams scored Carmarthen's first, with the second being a penalty converted by Paul Burrows.
Carmarthen were home again the following week, when they held Cwmbran to a 1-1 draw, Tony Rees finding the net against the Crows.
They visited Rhyl the following week to play Connah's Quay at Belle Vue, due to continuing drainage problems at the Deeside Stadium. Manager Tomi Morgan scored the first goal, with Sion Meredith hitting the second in the 2-0 win.
In a precursor to their Welsh Cup tie, Carmarthen drew 0-0 with Caernarfon on a sandy Richmond Park.
Entertaining Caernarfon Town at Richmond Park in the Welsh Cup fourth round, the home side progressed to the quarter-finals, with Paul Burrows and Glyn Griffiths scoring the important goals in a 2-0 victory.
That was followed by the visit of Tomi Morgan's former side, Rhayader, to Carmarthen for a Friday night fixture. The match ended at one apiece, with Matthew Cable scoring for the home side.
A week later, February ended with another draw against mid-Walianopposition, the visit to Llansantffraid seeing a 1-1 draw with Total Network Solutions. Dean Rossitter was the Carmarthen goalscorer on this occasion.
More important, though, was the Welsh Cup quarter-final tie with PortTalbot Athletic. Again at Richmond Park, a Paul Burrows penalty six minutes before half-time was enough to secure victory and a semi-final place against Conwy United.
After those exertions, though, Carmarthen fell to a 4-0 defeat to Bangor City at Farrar Road. However, they bounced back and defeated Total Network Solutions 1-0 at Richmond Park last Wednesday.
