The Cardiff side remain in with a shout in four different competitions, having ensured a place in the semi-finals of the FAW Premier Cup with a 4-0 win over Cwmbran Town at the end of February and reached tonight after a second round replay victory, again over Cwmbran. On Saturday they find themselves in yet another semi-final, the Welsh Cup, where they meet the familiar figure of Cwmbran. If nothing else, Inter are at least aware that they have the formbook on their side.
Inter have certainly earnt it, with George Wood earning a third Loosemore's Manager of the Month Award after the Cardiff Athletic stadium side went through March with only the hiccup being a replay against Connah's Quay Nomads.
February ended with a 3-0 home victory over Caernarfon Town with Neil Davies grabbing his first Inter goal of the season, alongside further strikes by Steve Mardenborough and Paul Evans. The midweek match against Barry in the Gilbert Cup was postponed, which meant that March started with an away game at Caersws, where Darren Poretta put the Cardiff side ahead before Paul Giles secured the points with a penalty, his first goal after returning from Cwmbran Town.
Inter were forced into a replay against Connah's Quay Nomads in the Welsh Cup fifth round. The opening game was played at Nomads' Deeside Stadium, where a goal from John Wills was cancelled out by the home side's Stuart Raine. It was the Nomads who struck first in the replay, but two goals from Paul Evans and a further goal from Neil Davies put the tie beyond Connah's Quay's reach and booked Inter a place in the semi-final.
At home to Rhayader, it was only an eighth minute goal from Paul Giles which earnt three points against the battling mid-Wales club, before a visit to Llansantffraid saw Inter win 3-1 against Total Network Solutions. Two goals from Mardenborough and a third from Paul Evans secured the points.
That was their final away match in the Low, and with five matches remaining, the hunt for second place was heating up. Inter thrashed Holywell 5-1 on a Tuesday evening, with Jamie Murray finding the net twice, as did Steve Mardenborough, with Giles adding the other.
That was followed by back-to-back losses, though, as both Newtown and Barry won in Cardiff. Newtown won 2-0 and the champions 2-1, with Simon Dyer returning from injury to score. He was the scorer again last Sunday, when Inter convincingly beat Bangor City 3-0 in Cardiff. Dyer scored all three, making him the first Inter player this season to score a hat-trick.
