REFEREE COMPETITION

During the past few seasons the motif ' PENALTY MARK ' has been associated with the writings in the Barry and District of the then active referee AX . However readers of an October edition, will know that owing to dabs of arthritis and gasping for a bit more air he has decided to hang up is whistle after a quarter of a century in the middle.

All is not however lost since an invitation by the FAW Development Officer means that he can help other referees by being an assessor .

There will also be quizzes and information relating to the Laws of the Game in future editions of the programme.

If there is anything you wish to know on this subject please put it in writing and pass to Tim Johnson for onward transmission.

Every spectator sitting in the stands today is his (her) own referee and think at times they could do better because referees make mistakes- very few mind you, but in your eyes they are the mistakes which cost your team the game and are often the week's talking point that is until the next game.

TV has highlighted so-called referees clangers for years and you can no doubt pinpoint a few.

In this my first article I would like to offer a prize of 5.

Please indicate in as few words as possible the qualities / actions which make a good referee.

Some clues to help you along- a referee should keep up with play or a referee should liaise well with his assistants.

I would also be interested if there is anyone who would like to be a referee

1) a ref

2) a ref

3) ref

Please put your entry on a piece of paper and pass to Tim Johnson or post them to "Celtic View", Harbour Road, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales CF62 5SA.
Please show your name or non de plume plus telephone number.
