CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS 2 BARRY TOWN 2

Now settled under the management of ex-Newport player, John Lewis (currently managing Merthyr Tydfil), Barry could consider themselves unlucky to have only got one point out of their first visit to the Halfway, the goals being a result of defensive lapses rather than a true reflection of the game. Barry, playing up the slope in the first half, got the scoring underway through Paul Evans, who latched onto the long ball, beat his marker and rounded the 'keeper in the twenty-seventh minute. However, the Nomads were soon level when a mix-up between Barry defender Andrew Webber and 'keeper Steve Morris saw Timothy Williams net for the home side. The second half saw Connah's Quay take the lead in the sixty-fifth minute when a corner from the right became a goalmouth melee, and resulted in the hapless Webber netting at the wrong end. However, Barry equalised with ten minutes to go, again through Evans, whose powerful shot went high into the net.

HOLYWELL TOWN 0 BARRY TOWN 2

Barry Town moved further ahead of the chasing pack on Saturday, winning 2-0 in a dour struggle at Holywell in the League of Wales, putting them four points clear of second placed Flint.

In terms of territory and possession Barry were entirely dominant, their failure to finish clear-cut chances being the prime reason for the comparatively low score. Barry took the lead on the half-hour. Ovendale took the ball from the feet of Holywell forward Paul Davies, and made a long throw reaching O'Gorman. Beating his marker, who was surprised at his incredible turn of speed, he sent a curling pass into the middle, where Hunter was able to control the ball before firing it into the right of the goal, well out of the reach of Embleton. Barry went further ahead just after the hour. A free-kick on the Barry right saw Gary Lloyd fire in an inch-perfect cross for Pike to score with his head.

As the teams re-assembled Barry brought on two of their substitutions; O'Gorman and Knight being replaced by Cohen Griffith and new-boy Terry Evans

07.12.1996 LEAGUE OF WALES
CONWY UNITED 0 BARRY TOWN 1

A goal after 77 seconds gave Barry the three points at the Morfa. A cross from the right was turned in by Tony Bird, and for Barry that was the end of the game. However, Conwy remained confident and the North Wales side took the game to Barry, with the Jenner Park side lucky to cling onto all three points.

The crowd of 456 was mostly behind the North Walians, and the Musslemen kept Barry in their own half for much of the game, even if Ovendale was unthreatened in goal.

Neither side looked like altering the scoreline, and Barry were happy with a good days work. Conwy, however, were frustrated by yet another unlucky loss to Barry, a feeling which they were to have again in the Welsh Cup semi-final a few months later.

06.12.1997 LEAGUE OF WALES
TOTAL NETWORK SOLUTIONS 0 BARRY TOWN 1

A fourth minute penalty was all it needed for Barry to keep to the top of the League of Wales, and prevent T.N.S. from getting revenge for their 10-0 thumping at Jenner Park earlier in the season. When Chris Pike was felled in the Total Network Solutions penalty area by an over-eager Andy Mulliner, Gary Lloyd stepped up and sent Mulliner in the wrong direction.

Barry kept the upper half in the first half, on the small Llansantffraid pitch which was the scene of their only LoW defeat the previous season. However, T.N.S came back into the game, with Arwel Jones going close for the Treflan side - attempting to make up for his own goal at Jenner Park.

However, the Barry defence answered the questions well, and Barry left Llansantffraid with a 1-0 victory - our first League of Wales victory at the ground!
