Having conceeded 18 goals in their previous 3 matches against Barry, Aberystwyth fans must have been relatively content with their performance against the Dragons at Park Avenue in our last League of Wales clash.

That match took place at the end of February, with Aberystwyth fielding an unchanged side from that which had played at Carmarthen on the preceding Friday.

Aberystwyth started brightly, with a speculative effort from Gavin Allen being saved by Mark Ovendale, but Barry soon began to use the strong wind to their advantage.

Consistent pressure began to tell on the Aberystwyth defence, and it wasn't a surprise when Eifion Williams was able to head home from close range after fifteen minutes of the game.

Barry continued to dominate the game throughout the first half, with a number of opportunities being well saved by Stuart Kinninmonth in the Aberystwyth goal. He was able to save chances from a number of players, including Gary Lloyd, Danny Carter and Gary Barnett, while Barry also saw two chances come back into play off the woodwork, rather than into the Aber goal.

Interest was maintained up until half time though, as while chasing a long ball, Chris Pike tumbled over Kinninmonth, and fell awkwardly, landing in the penalty area. Referee, Gwilym Lewis of Caersws, rushed over to Pike and booked him for diving, before realising that he was genuinely injured, and needed to be stretchered off for urgent treatment.

Having ended the first half at 1-0, Barry quickly stormed into a two-goal advantage. An Aberystwyth attack fell apart, and Barry broke quickly. The chance was cleared for a corner, and from that, Lee Barrow aimed his looping header into the corner of the net, giving Barry a two goal lead in the 53rd minute.

Barry, without the injured Pike, were content to sit on their two goal advantage, and comfortably cleared any Aberystwyth threats. However, an attacking sortie from Barry in the 82nd minute led to a foul in the Aber area. Gary Lloyd stepped up to take the penalty, but Kinnonmonth dived well to his left to save, and keep the score at 2-0 to Barry.
