The opening minutes were fairly level between the two sides, although Barry looked the more threatening, with Lee Barrow's long throw-ins and well-prepared set-pieces forcing Inter onto the defensive, with the home side not responding well to high balls into the penalty area.
It was from those tactics that Barryscored their opening goal after 22 minutes. A cross from Darren Davies on the left was not cleared by the Inter defenders, with Justin Perry playing a key role. The ball find kindly to Richard Jones, who blasted it through a forest of players into the top right hand corner.
Inter equalised soon after the break. They broke the Barry offside trap, and held possession for several passes. A swift interchange between Norman Parselle, Simon Dyer and Paul Evans ended when Evans cleverly backheeled the ball into Dyer's path and the striker gratefully knocked the ball underneath Barry keeper John Roberts, giving his teammates renewed hope that they could win the game.
Barry's winner came with fifteen minutes remaining. A cross from the right found Chris Sloan, who shaped up to hammer the ball home past Wager, but in attempting to do so found the feet of an Inter defender. The deflection took much of the power out of the shot, but it still forced its way past Inter keeper Gary Wager, who was taken off balance by the change in the flight of the ball.
Inter again came back strongly, but were unable to find the net. However, in pushing forward, Inter left themselves exposed at the back, and Jonathan Jones and Chris Sloan were able to exploit those gaps.
On one occasion, Jones hit the post, while on another forward run, the Inter defence was split by the pair and left Sloan in a one-on-one with Wager at the end of the box. Unfortunately for Barry, Sloan hesitated and the chance was lost as a well-time tackle cleared the ball.
Barry therefore took the psychological advantage in the four-game series, and forcing Inter to win their final two League of Wales matches to be sure of a place in Europe through the League of Wales.
