That Welsh Cup match was only settled in the last half-an-hour of the game, with Haverfordwest keeping Barry to just two late goals, similar to the Gilbert League Cup match a fortnight before that.
Haverfordwest defended in depth a fortnight ago, while Barry were without October Player of the Month, Danny Carter, and Richard Jones, both of whom were rested. That gave the opportunity to players such as Chris Pridham to impress the support. However, Haverfordwest were also missing players, such as the League of Wales second top scorer, Richard Gay.
Haverfordwest had the better of some of the early exchanges, forcing a series of corners. They also forced a good save from David Wells, who had to stop a dipping, deflected shot from Andy Jones. David Burrows also went close to the target, although his shot from distance was unlikely to trouble Wells, who had just returned after spending time with the Northern Ireland under-21 squad.
At the other end of the field, Barry were causing trouble themselves, Eifion Williams failing to score after a good cross from Mark Dempsey, while Justin Perry, Chris Pridham and Lee Barrow also gave Haverfordwest keeper, Neil Frederickson, cause for concern.
The first-half ended goalless, despite a move from Eifion Williams and Gary Lloyd seeing a shot go narrowly over the bar.
Early in the second half, Barry stepped up the tempo, with Justin Perry going close on two occasions, and Richard Molyneuax blocking an Eifion Williams strike.
Barry's opening goal finally came in the 68th minute. Mickey George attempted to hammer the ball clear, but it hit Gary Lloyd and bounced to Eifion Williams, who cheekily took the ball around Frederickson before putting it in the net.
However, Haverfordwest could have been back at 1-1 a few minutes later, when Chris Pridham gave the ball away, but former Barry player, Morrys Scott, was unable to deliver the goods and Dave Wells was able to save his shot.
Then, with ten minutes of the tie remaining, Barry scored a killer goal. Paul Mitchell delivered a pass to Eifion Williams on the right wing. Williams glanced upwards, saw Frederickson stranded away from his line, and after the ball bounced once, unleashed a tremendous shot which dipped into the goal and gave Barry an unassailable 2-0 lead.
