From the Dragon's Mouth

v Caersws, L.o.W. ,21st February, 1998

Good afternoon, and a warm welcome to Jenner Park for today's League of Wales match between Barry Town and Caersws. On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone attending today's match, and especially to the players, officials and supporters of Caersws F.C. We hope that you enjoy your stay in the Vale of Glamorgan and that you have a safe journey home.

GILBERT LEAGUE CUP

Hopefully, you'll all be here again on Tuesday night to see us secure our place in our first (and, hopefully, not our only) cup final of the season. Tuesday's game is against Cwmbran. The other semi-final is between Caernarfon Town and the winner of the Bangor City/Conwy United quarter-final. The result of these games will soon be known, while the cup final itself will be played on a mid-Walian ground on Saturday, 2nd of May.

IT'S...TOTAL NETWORK SOLUTIONS

Following our magnificent 8-0 victory over Cymru Alliance leaders, Knighton Town, Barry have been drawn to face, yes, Total Network Solutions. The draw for the Welsh Cup quarter-finals have thrown up some intriguing fixtures, with two local derbies amongst the four matches. Bangor City will be entertaining Caernarfon Town, a journey of eight miles, while our opponents today will be hosting Newtown, a little over five miles away. The other match is between Connah's Quay Nomads and Cwmbran Town, another potentially exciting game between two sides pushing for the top of the LoW.

Playing T.N.S will certainly stir memories for Barry players and supporters, the least of which will be the Welsh Cup final of 1995-6, when Barry lost to the then-Llansantffraid side on penalties, after a thrilling match. In some ways, however, revenge was ensured in the Third round of the following seasons Welsh Cup, when Barry defeated the Saints 2-0. In our most recent games, we have defeated our 'bogey' side by the jointly held LoW record of 10-0, and 1-0 at the Recreation Ground in Llansantffraid.

In short, the quarter finals, due to be played on Saturday, 14th March, look set to be a set of crackers!

COMING UP!

Following Tuesday's Gilbert Cup game at home to Cwmbran Town, Barry will be playing away at Aberystwyth next Saturday, 28th February, and then to Cwmbran Town again on 7th March. Our following home match will be on the 10th March, when Barry will be attempting to gain revenge on Rhayader for holding Barry to a draw a few weeks ago.

For any information on travel to away matches, see the Supporters' Club Travel Notes.

Enjoy the match. Give the Town a shout!
