CUP: Ryan puts Barry back on course after defeat

HAT-TRICK hero Darren Ryan kept Barry firmly on course to produce a repeat of last season's domestic treble.

It's rare for Barry to go into a game off the back of a defeat and they were out to prove a point after their midweek defeat at the hands of Merthyr in the Invitation Cup.

But TNS are formidable opponents and are well used to countering Barry's strength in passing and running off the ball.

Ryan was prominent early on and grabbed his first goal in the 26th minutes after a long throw in by Lee Barrow was half cleared by the TNS defence.

Mulliner produced superb saves to deny Eifion Williams, Craig Evans and player-coach Gary Barnett and that kept the score at 1-0 up to the interval.

But Barry continued to control proceedings in the second half and a perfect through-ball by Danny Carter found Ryan, who stayed cool under pressure to slot the ball home.

TNS had a lifeline after 70 minutes when defender Michael Gallagher rose above the defence to head past Mark Ovendale.

Barry weren't fazed by this and received their reward nine minutes from time.

A move started in midfield by Gareth Knott released Carter, whose pinpoint cross was headed by Ryan, to complete his treble.
