BARRY READY TO CELEBRATE

by Mark Burton

DESPITE the departure of prolific scorer, Eifion Williams, for Nationwide League Torquay and the unsettling impact of a possible impending sale of the club, Barry Town moved to within a point of a remarkable fourth successive League of Wales championship by beating strugglers Rhyl 2-0 at Jenner Park on Saturday.

Williams gave the league a huge boost with a debut hat-trick for his new club against Hartlepool, but it is unlikely that Barry can find as good a replacement for the North Walian. It's a mystery why he wasn't snapped up by Cardiff City or even Swansea City because he would have loved to display his scoring touch for a Welsh club.

Goals by Mark Dempsey and Justin Perry were enough to kill off Rhyl's brave challenge and the champagne is already in ice for tomorrow night's game against Carmarthen Town at Jenner Park. It should be quite a night, but Carmarthen won't hand the points to them easily.
