GILBERT LEAGUE CUP FINAL

Bangor City 1 Barry Town 1 (after extra time; Barry win 5-4 on penalties)

HISTORY repeated itself yesterday when Barry Town snatched the Gilbert League Cup away from Bangor City in the most dramatic fashion by way of a penalty shoot-out.

A year after the League of Wales champions were spot on at Aberystwyth, they did it again at Farrar Road.

The crucial moment came when Barry goalkeeper, Pat Mountain stood his ground to block Bangor's fourth penalty, by Craig Dulson. Barry then netted their chances to gain a 5-4 decision.

That proved to be the only way to separate well-matched rivals after the game ended 1-1 after extra-time.

Barry - the unbeaaten leaague champions - provided most of the creative football. Gary Barnett's team also forced 16 corners to Bangor's four.

But City came good during extra-time when they missed the clearest chance of the match.

With 112 minutes gone, Ken McKenna rose well to power a 10-yard header again the bar following a deep right win cross from Dulson.

The rebound flew to Marc Lloyd-Williams barely three yards out. Inexplicably, he put his attempt over the bar.

Barry attacked from the start, and went ahead after 32 minutes. Bangor failed to clear a corner, and Richard Jones ended a frantic scramble when he netted from five yards.

But Bangor took barely four minutes to level when Williams converted a McKenna lay-off.
