FORMER Barry Town striker Eifion Williams scored a hat-trick on his debut for new club Torquay and hit out at doubters who said he would never make it in the Football League.
The big striker from North Wales was signed for 70,000 by the Division Three club on deadline day last week, and helped his side to beat Hartlepool 3-0.
Wales B cap was trailed by Cardiff and Swansea but neither were willing to gamble on him and he spent a week on trial at Portsmouth but was sent back to Barry.
"I came here hoping to do well and I have had a dream start scoring a hat-trick," said Williams. "I always believed I had the ability to score goals and that is why the manager here bought me. I have always believed I could do it in the Football League and I think I have proved that today. I still have ambitions to make it in the Premiership, but I am here for three years and I can't wait for the next game."
On the game, he added: "It's hard to see why Torquay are near the bottom after the way we played."
While all is rosy for Williams, his old club, Barry, who play in the League of Wales, were put up for sale in a shock announcement yesterday. Players were told at training and an advertisment is expected to appear today saying that players and the club are available at the right price.
