BARRY TOWN, who drew 6,500 spectators for a UEFA Cup tie against Aberdeen in 1996, look to be heading back into Europe. The unbeaten League of Wales leaders effectively sealed a third successive title with a 2-1 home win over second placed Cwmbran on Saturday.
The record of the club, who have 17 full-tim professionals, is blemished only by draws against Newtown and Inter Cable-tel and goals by Phil Johnson and Craig Evans on Saturday put Barry 17 points clear with 16 games to go.
"Europe is a massive incentive," said player-manager Gary Barnett, who has already taken Barry into the UEFA Cup and Champions' League, where they lost to Dynamo Kiev in the first qualifying round this season. "People round here have come to expect it. Our European nights are special."
Barry have been well served this season by 32-goal marksman Eifion Williams, a record 25,000 pound signing from Caernarvon (sic), and Darren Ryan, the former Chester and Stockport striker.
