By an amazing set of coincidences, Barry won their third game against the West Walians by the same score and the two goals coming late in each game.
The Bluebirds will be glad to see the back of the champions and do not play Barry again until next April. In fairness they have given Barry three tough games and have earned much credit despite their lack of success.
Barry were back in league action after four successive cup matches, all tough games, and only losing to Wrexham. Their marvellous run means only four goals conceded in 13 games since September, and only Wrexham's Kevin Russell has scored in the last nine games against Barry. Swansea's Tony Bird was the last before that in Swansea's last gasp equaliser at the Vetch.
On a Jenner Park pitch which was in marvellous condition for a cold December day, Barry played some exhilarating soccer and the Bluebirds committed defence worked hard to stem the flood of yellow shirts.
It was the brilliant Dempsey who had the first shot on target, testing goalkeeper Frederickson with a couple of shots as Barry pressed home their attacks against a team committed to defend.
Gay tried a difficult shot for the visitors, but the impressive York headed away the danger. Barry were playing great soccer and Lloyd was tackling superbly, breaking up several attacks.
Dempsey was again revelling on the left and linking well with Carter, their efforts gave Williams a chance but his shot was taken low by the goalkeeper.
After Jones had gone close, Terry Evans having a superb game, got down to the bye line and cut in and passed unselfishly to Barnett. The finish was disappointing as the player/coach fired over the bar.
No score at half-time, the last chance falling to Williams firing over the goalkeeper, but a defender cleared the danger.
It was all Barry in the second half, the visitors were, it seemed, content with a point
In the 70th minute, however, Williams broke the deadlock firing home a pass from man of the match Evans.
Williams was once again on the score sheet nine minutes later after tremendous work down the left by Dempsey, the player taking on two players and crossing expertly.
A slide rule pass by Lloyd set up Jones, but with just the goalkeeper to beat, he fired wide. Williams was denied a hat-trick, beating one defender but his goalbound shot was blocked by another.
So the game finished to complete a remarkable sequence of scorelines.
