1 - FILE NAME CONVENTION:
File name GHL99V0().DRS - () Will represent the sequential version number.

2 - CURRENT VERSION
GHL99V04.DRS

3 - INTRODUCTION
This file is for the FHL hockey simmulator it was created by the FRSC (FHL ratings and statistics council)with signifigant participation from GHL members. This version of the drs file was editied to create a file suitible to the GHL (Global Hockey league) and possibly others who wish to use it. The GHL supports cooperative ventures like the FRSC and wishes to thank everyone for their time and effort. A special thanks to Chris Bailey, Ryan Barkhouse, Jessica Moreau, Will Cox and Big AL who logged in well over 50 hours checking and keying in data for the drs file. A VERY SPECIAL thankyou to Manu Kinder who, with out his ambition this project would never have been started.

4 - GHL99V01.DRS, How was this database created?
>> 05/07/99 04:57

1 - An unedited version of the 97-99 players database file (player98.drs) from the FHL site is the base.
2 - All ratings created by the FRSC were used as the ratings (some minor changes to players were made to fine tune the results or correct errors.
2a - The FRSC only rated players who played 20+ games in the NHL during the 98-99 season.
3 - The database was manually edited one player at a time.
4 - The salaries, contract data, vitals, were not verified or edited. We know there were some errors in the original database from the FHL site.
5 - Players who were in the original database that were not on the FRSC ratings list were checked to see if they played any games in the NHL at all. If they did they were given a rating of 33 in all catagories. If they didn't play any NHL games they were deleted from the database. This was done to allow leagues the option to edit them for their own needs or delete them if they so choose.
6 - Players who were not in the database but on the FRSC ratings list were added to the database and vitals, position etc were verified as being correct. There were 71 players added to the database.
7 - There were 680 players rated by the FRSC
8 - There are 782 players in this version of the database.
9 - Two spelling changes were made for Khristich and Nabokov, thier first name was changed from Dimitri to Dmitri.
10 - Original file named FRSC99.DRS and submitted to the project team. Thi has been posted on their site.
11 - All player vitals and contract information is as per the original "Players98.drs", no editing was done on vitals.
12 - The GHL league wanted to keep all players in the database that played any NHL games, so we created this version (ghl99v01.drs) to allow us to make our own changes.

A very knowledgable friend reviewed version #1 of the file and made these comments. We took these comments and made adjustments by doing the following.
- relooking at the players actual NHL stats
- comparing to bench mark players in same position
- looking at OV of players when listed together

Not all players were edited as per the below notes, some went up some went down and some never changed. In general most of the time we made some tweaking to go in the general dirction as indicated below. In order to see the impact of the changes you would require the html output file of version #1 and compare it to version #2's output file.

Add Aaron Gavey (C)

Added ratings to 86 of the 103 players who had played less then 20 games in the NHL, these players were previously rated 33 in all catagories. The rating were obtained at FRSC site from the AHL and IHL ratings sheets. They seem quite inconsistant , however most of these players aren't of any value until they break into the NHL as a regular. The 17 players left who have 33's in all catagories were left as is.

8 - How do I upload the data file:

It is reccommended you backup for league files before doing any data updates. While we are not the experts on the software we have done uploads several times with few problems. We suggest you read all the notes below before starting the update.

a - Put the GHL99V0(?).DRS file in your FHL main directory.
b - Open your simm and at the main screen select <File>, <update player stats>.
c - You will receive a warning telling you that all stats will be overwritten, select ok.
d - You will then be asked if you want salary information updated as well, warning! Our file only contains the same information in the player98.drs file from Shawn Bates. Any new players added had ball park numbers given to them. Make your decision accordingly.
e - Once you proceed from the step above the coversion will start.

Thats all thats to it, when completed your team rosters will contain the new player stats.

Some quick notes about what changes occure on an update:
Sometimes the simm will hang as it is processing a team. Simply stop the update process and close your simm with out saving, nothing will be changed. Make a note of the team that the simm hangs on, it is likely that a player that is not in the new database but is on a team roster is causeing the problem. The easiest solution is to compare that teams roster with the output html file that came with this update package. I reccomend once you locate the player(s) that are not in the new update to delete them from the team before retrying the player update. Pat Lafontaine gave us a problem. The simm normally should take the guys that are on a roster and not in the new database and place them in your prospect list. Also note that if you have changed player name spelling in you team rosters you will find these players don't update and will end up in your prospects list as well.
Use the <manager> <view team prospects> menu picks from the main startup simm screen to see who didn't update. If there are players that didn't update because of name spelling (Dimitri Khristich and Nabokov) are 2 you will likely find, you can delete the players by highlighting the name and selecting the delete button. To get any players back to the team rosters that fell off as described above go to the appropriate edit team roster screen and select add player. A box will come up where you can find the players in the database that didn't have a team assigned to them. Highlight the player you want to add and hit <use selected>. The player will be assigned to the team.
Player injuries are cleared on a player stat update, if this is important you will have to save the injury info for each player and reenter it when the update is complete.
Does the update erase the players statistics? Yes, if you are updating in the middle of a season the players personal stats will be reset as well.

That is all we have for now, any further information will be added.
