BEARCATS 5 ROYALS 4 O/T
In a repeat of last series the Cats loose game
1 and storm back taking the next 4. Without Mironov it looked like the
Royals would sneak back in, but GM Belanger gave the team one honkin pep
talk and said time for the juggler! The Royals were stymied at every corner
as the Cats played the hearts out. Outshot 41-24 and no stars listed the
Cats took the game from the Royals. The Blue blood had a 2 goal lead with
7 mins left in the third when Bill Guerin went on a mission. He scored
a nifty shorthanded goal assited by Doug Weigh to put the Cats within one
and with 2.5 mins left in the game Nemchinov scored on a rebound to tie
the game. At the 4:57 mark of overtime Geurin scored his second of the
game assisted by the retiring Gretzky to finish off the Royals. Tkachuk,
Yashin and Pronger played strong for the Royals but the Cats showed the
bigger heart. After the game GM Belanger had this to say "I
am speechless right now... we are really exited! We made alot of moves
this year to get this... I am really happy for Gretz as he goes out a champion
and was in on the winning goal". Big Al
was asked for his comments
"I hand
it to Dean, he did a remarkable job this season, the Cats have been at
the door several times, they deserve this one" I don't feel we had the
same desire as the Cats and that was the difference, we played very well
statiscally but the stats don't always win games"
Bearcats win series 4-1
The GHL front office congratulates the Bearcat
organization and wishes eveyone the best for the upcoming season. |
