Day 8
Exposure gives some 'leeway'

San Francisco -- Exposure is important. I like being one of the fan's favorites. If gives you some leeway when you mess up.

One of the companies I am involved with is Burger King. In fact, on this trip to San Francisco, a contest winner will be joining my wife and me for dinner. It was a contest where kids had to go into Burger King and choose something off a Chipper's Choice menu and then they filled out a card and one was picked. Do I eat at Burger King? I'm not going to say religiously, but I do eat there.

One of the other things I do is with Neal Boortz on WSB. I call at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, though when I am on the road there are times when I forget. I know a lot of people hate Neal. When I'm in town I listen and like to talk some politics.

The other thing I do on WSB is a segment called "Ask Chipper," where kids can ask me questions, I answer them and they are played on the air. I get a lot of the same questions: how does it feel to be a professional baseball player and stuff like that. The best question I have gotten is how I like being married to my wife. I don't think that one has been on the air yet.

I have been doing some print shots for Chris BMW and Chris Volvo. That is where I get my picture in the sports section every day and the shots can be pretty dorky. They wanted me to have "Beameritis," whatever that is. The other thing I do is for Mizuno. They dress me from head to toe and I also use their glove and bat. I know Mike Piazza used to be a Mizuno guy until Rawlings got him away. But Mike still uses a Mizuno bat. Baseball players get used to their glove and bat and they are not going to change.
