Day 5
St. Louis latest jolt on trip
St. Louis -- Not many of my teammates were in a good mood after Sunday's game in Houston. Then we're flying into St. Louis and it was very smooth until the landing, where the pilot set the plane down and then popped back up quickly before finally coming back down. It scared everyone and I guess was a very fitting way to end the first leg of this trip.
We got to the hotel [Adams Mark] around 9 [p.m.], and I didn't feel like going out so we ordered room service. I got a Philly cheese steak, some fries, barbecue shrimp for an appetizer and a chocolate malt. It was actually pretty good and didn't take a long time, which is a surprise here because the service typically is bad.
I watched some of the Olympics, the gymnastics and some volleyball. My wife has been going to some stuff. She said she was going down to the House of Blues, which sounds pretty cool.
I then watched a movie, "The Money Train," with Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson, and it was just all right. I went to bed kind of early for me, around 12:30.
I got up around 11:30 and called my wife and checked in on her. I went down to the lobby and signed some autograhs for about 15 minutes and took a cab to the park. Busch Stadium is right around the corner from the hotel, but there is no way some of us can walk because we would never get there because of all the people trying to get autographs. Some guys used to try to sneak around the crowds, but the kids are smart and quickly figured that out.
We need to win some games. We lost some tough ones in Houston and it is time to get going again. This is an awfully long road trip and no one wants to go back home only a couple of games up. But the good thing about this club is the way we have always bounced back. For instance, you don't see anyone in the clubhouse worried about a few losses. We just take care of business on the field.
