Day 4
"Broken Arrow," pizza help tune out a defeat
Houston -- The game Saturday night was a bad one to lose. Greg (Maddux) pitched such a good game. It was one of those times where we couldn't get the big hit. It seems like that has happened a couple of times lately. So I went back to the hotel and watched a couple of movies. It's only five bucks to watch them after midnight and I saw "Happy Gilmore" again and also watched "Broken Arrow." I also ate a pizza and paid for it in the morning.
On Sundays that are getaway days you have to get up early, and this time there was a mob waiting outside my door. There were a lot of us on the same floor and there were kids everywhere. They had camped out.
That is a situation where I will not sign autographs. I have to be able to have some privacy, and I don't mind if people are behind a barricade and everything is in control. But you have absolutely no idea who may be coming up to you and it gets really tough when there are people crowded around you. I always end up getting in a cab and, a couple of miles down the road, I look at my coat and see some kids have written all over it.
The charters aren't the same anymore without Jerome (Walton) and Tyler (Houston). We used to always play cards together and Tyler has been traded and Walton has been on the DL. Everybody else has a card game so I have been doing a lot of reading on the plane. I'm reading a book about the Kennedy assassination. I'm really intrigued with that whole thing, reading anything I can get my hands on and also watching anything on television that might be about it.
As far as St. Louis, I love playing there, but I hate the hotel (Adams Mark). Something always goes wrong there. The hotel lobby is a mess. Why do we stay there? I'm sure because we get the best price.
