Day 16
Braves gape at speed of Michael Johnson

Los Angeles -- Before we left for L.A. on Thursday, we sat in the clubhouse and watched Michael Johnson. What an incredible athlete! I thought that guy named Frankie Fredericks would give him a good run. But forget it. He just blew everybody away. I'll tell you, everybody in this clubhouse was impressed. You don't see that kind of speed in baseball.

When we go from San Diego to Los Angeles or vice versa, it's the only place we bus instead of fly. I got into a good poker game with the pitchers. I usually don't play with them, but I took 60 bucks from them.

We got into Los Angeles and I called a friend [Bailey Leutgart] of mine who was a roommate during high school and lives here. He is an actor now and has appeared in an episode of "Married With Children," an HBO commercial and some commercials. It's funny because he was a middle linebacker in high school and we played baseball together. He came out to L.A. to be a sports agent, but I guess he got a break.

After that, Brad [Clontz] and I watched a movie. It was "Twister." It's a new month so you get a bunch of new movies in the hotel, which will keep me busy all weekend. We ordered a pizza to eat and just relaxed.

I spent most of Friday on the phone, talking to my wife, and I called up Neal Boortz (on WSB-AM) to do my little bit with him on the radio. We talked about the series in San Diego and how important it was to win the last two games. I really don't argue with him too much. I don't get into a verbal debate with somebody that is smarter than me.

I came to Dodger Stadium early and ate lunch in the clubhouse and played hearts with [Greg] Maddux and [Mark] Wohlers. This place is the cleanest stadium you will ever see. It is a great place to play because there is always a big crowd and we have always had a pretty good rivalry with the Dodgers. It's going to be a tough weekend with the arms they will throw at us.
