Day 15
Envelope please: it's payday

San Diego -- We get paid on the first and the 15th of every month and today was a payday.

I don't really think about that a whole lot until (traveling secretary Bill Acree) comes up and hands you the envelope and you look in it and say, "Wow." I don't get my check directly deposited into my account. I probably should because earlier this year I lost a check and finally found it two weeks later.

My check is not like Greg Maddux's check. He gets like five checks every time.

This (Thursday) was a big game for us. Over the last two days we came up with some big hits, some good pitching and played good defense.

We really needed this because we had not been playing very well.

The road trip is really getting long. I think everybody wants to go home. I know I'm tired of sitting around in these gray uniforms. It will be nice to get home and play in front of the home folks and hopefully we can catch a second wind.

But we have Los Angeles first and I guarantee you we run into some good pitching.
