Day 11
Day to relax comes for tired team
San Francisco -- I was tired when I got home from the park Saturday night. I took a nap, and I never go out on a night when a day game follows. I was already tired from staying up the night before watching all the bombing stuff on television.
[My wife] Karin and I watched some of the Olympics and then watched "Primal Fear" on Spectra Vision. Karin is a big Richard Gere fan and I met Bill Diehl, who wrote the book, down at St. Simons Island at an engagement party. We ordered some room service and I got a pizza, which actually wasn't bad for hotel-made, and a Caesar salad. Needless to say, Karin didn't talk to me the rest of the night because of my breath.
We really played awful here in San Francisco. It's really no fun when we play like that. We just never could find any groove offensively, and the pitching wasn't good except for a couple of games. I'm glad we're leaving because I don't think, to a man, that anybody really likes playing here at Candlestick Park. Plus, Barry [Bonds] really hurt us. When he is hot, he is as good or better than any player in baseball. It's like when he is in a zone you throw him anything close to the plate and he is going to hit it, and lots of times he is going to hit it out of the park.
I think a day off is exactly what everybody needs, a chance to relax.
