Thundering Hooves
Probably my favourite picture of the lot.
Rounding the turn, the high-priced Danske is in front and looks to be travelling well for jockey Mick Dittman.
However he starts to feel the pinch down the straight and gets chewed up and spat out by Light Opera (in the green with the pink maltese cross).
Danske was second, and Seasquill (in the red with blue sleeves, green armbands) finishes third.
Buster Brookfield
Orion ready to leave the birdcage with Buster Brookfield looking at his behind, hopefully a sight he'd get used to during the running:-)
"And its ORION!!, hes got them by TEN lengths at the post and he wins it under a hold!!"
(ok, ok, so it was his preliminary, had ya going though eh!!:-)
The actual winner, Buster Brookfield, returning to scale.
Lined and ready......
.....The gates crash open....
....And they are off!!
TOP: Not a great view of it, but that shadow you can see between Turnover(4-wide, white blaze) and Chase Alida(similar colours) is the fallen runner Elfa Leather.
BOTTOM: Trudy Collet on the deck after being tossed with help on the way
Back to the race and its Hummer getting the better of Kings Ransom. Chase Alida and Turnover are fighting on well.
But the eventual winner, Stern Stuff (in the pink with Vinny Colgan aboard) is getting ready to go whooosh!!
The unbeaten Sunline in the birdcage before the race
The still unbeaten Sunline after the race:-)
The favourite Peacekeeper in the birdcage before the race.
Hmmmmm.... I always thought its the person with the pin and the tail that gets blindfolded, not the donkey!!:-)
.... And the jockey is getting anxious too...
"What??, you mean to tell me I actually have to steer this one??!?!? " :-)
The Champ, ROUGH HABIT, being led around a parade ring.
Heres Kevin Myers trying to persuade the handler to let him have a go at sending Roughie over the sticks:-)
The mighty grey mare, and pride of the south..... Covered 'N Grey.
Pre-post favourite Tycoon Lil.
The prodigal son returns!!
Former locally trained runner, Moss Downs, returns home.
Below are 3 photos of the Mudgway Stakes that ive stuck together, i guess its about 100m out, 50m, then on the line.
Bad quality, but interesting to see both Avedon and Limerick improve visibly over the final stages (unless the angle has got me:-))
At the post, its the outside runner Batavian who had his head down at the right time, Tycoon Lil a game second, and Covered 'N Grey third.
Batavian coming back to the birdcage in the hands of Peter Johnson.
The 1998 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes winner.
