Issue #14-The BIG Adjustment

Preface:

I know I have been moving things around-trying to find the best way to
present my magazine-but I think I have finally come up with the perfect
format!  Of course you can still submit ideas and if I like them they
will become part of the magazine.  If you remember Issue 12 had an
article called: " FLASHBACK 2087:  How Long Will Beast-Rider be riding on
Renegade?" by Aaron Chiu.  I've decided to make this another stand alone
section!  So far, Aaron has sent me two more Flashbacks!  I will choose
the best one of everyone's Flashbacks and put them in every issue (this
magazine is getting too big!  Soon I will have to send in two letters!).
Although Aaron wants this to be a trial basis because he doesn't want to
do all of the flashbacks by himself, I think because of the popularity of
his first one, that I should have no problems getting many submissions
for this.  This is the perfect thing for people who are not caught up to
the present in GWF years!   Thanks Aaron!  In conclusion, I would like to
point out that I have brought back the Addresses section and added on Web
Site Location.   Hopefully I will have at least one regular address,
e-mail address, or web site location (or all three) each issue.  I like
this part because people get to meet each other outside of NG.  Hey, if
any new friendships are formed from this, write an article about it!
Without further ado, ISSUE FOURTEEN!

1. Wrestlers
A. Jack Emerald by Warren Fitzpatrick
([email protected])

Here's the promised wrestler from the St. Patty's day contest.

His moves list:
Celtic Crossing: He whips the opponent into the turnbuckle and then does
a
"Stinger Splash" of sorts.  However, when he splashes them, he gets high
enough to completely send himself over the top rope upon impact.
Wanna be a Leprechaun: Wicked Flying lariat that could make anyone a head
shorter.
Shamrock Tieup: His variation of the texas cloverleaf.
Irish Whiskey: An elbow from the middle rope to the downed opponent.
Luck O' the Irish: Commonly referred to as the Diamondcutter.

History: He is from the island of Ireland on Earth.  That is how his last
name (It's a stage name) was given to him (His real name is Sean
Fitzgerald
- not too tough sounding huh?).  He began wrestling on Earth at a young
age
and then went on the galactic circle working his way up through various
smaller promotions.  As his name grew, so did the fear for his finisher
that he'd mastered to pull off seemingly from nowhere.  He's became known
as a particularly tough individual with excellent technical skills in the
ring.  The name "Irish Whiskey" came about when he went to ringside to do
some 'color commentary' during an enemies match.  He was at ringside
drinking that famous Irish liquor.  When the opponent came out to
confront
him, he cooly sat there with his drink (you know this isn't gonna last).
The opponent slapped the bottle from his lips spilling it everywhere.
Jack
grabbed the bottle and shattered on his enemy.  He then threw him into
the
ring and did the particular move that bears the name 'Irish Whiskey' to
this day.

Personality:
He has a huge mean streak, but the fans tend to take to him.  Granted
these
aren't the same fans that like Star Warrior, but more in the Wolf vein.
He
doesn't trust many people so he prefers not to have any true allies.
He'll
ally with someone only as long as they have a common enemy.  He loves a
good brawl and has a wicked "Irish temper" - something you better never
say
to his face unless you wanna see it!  He is rough around the edges, but
has
a good heart (although he'd never admit it).  He enjoys what he does and
one day truly wants to be considered one of the best, and with that
finisher - he just may do it.

Note:
I realize that his finisher is listed on level 2 offense.  This is to
represent the wrestler that pulls his finisher off from nowhere (aka
Jake'the Snake' Roberts or Diamond Dallas Page).

using a
"Jack Emerald - 2", then on a roll of 2-6 (on 2 dice) means that he will
use
his finisher.  If he misses the roll, the opponent has slipped out of his
grasp and rolled outside the ring (If possible)  If he can't roll out of
the
ring, then the opponent just backed into a corner and Jack rolls again
on level 2 offense.

2.Promoter Articles
A.  A Response to Joachim Erdtman by Tom Filsinger
([email protected])

Joe asked me to respond to Joachim's Letter to the Editor in the last
issue
of NG.  I want to thank Joe for the opportunity to respond and to Joachim
for showing his interest in the GWF by writing in the first place.  Also,
by the way, I want to plug NG.  Joe has worked hard to keep this
electronic
newsletter going and I'm glad that GWF fans have a forum to discuss the
game
apart from GWF Promoter newsletter.

I was happy to hear from Joachim (it had been such a long time), but I'm
sorry that he doesn't play anymore.  I'll try to explain why some things
happen here at Filsinger Games, although they might not help Joachim in
any
tangible way!

First off regarding two game editions each year.  I began offering two
each year
with WARGAMES 2091 for a couple reasons.  One was that loyal game fans
thought
a year between game editions was too long and I was told that some lost
interest
after waiting that long.  Second, when I introduced the concept of
wrestlers
getting updated and aging in INVASION 2090, I thought it would be
unacceptable
to loyal fans to only offer a few new characters a year.  So for these
reasons,
I began to offer two editions a year and most game fans were very happy
for
the change.  I've been doing it this way for eight years and some game
fans
tell me I should offer THREE regular editions per year, something I would
never
do.

I understand where Joachim might find catching up with regular editions
AND
Classics editions pretty time consuming.  My advice is don't bother with
the
Classics editions.  Just stick to the main GWF timeline in the regular
editions.  The Classics editions were created because many promoters
wanted
the early history of the GWF and I really enjoy writing them.  In fact,
the sales for Classics are roughly equal to sales for regular game
editions.
So it's clear to me that most buyers want them.

Even though there's a demand for Classics editions, I agree with Joachim
that
there is such a thing as overkill.  So even though it's against my best
interests as a businessman, I sometimes release a regular edition only.
In
fact, that's what will happen with CPC 2107.  There's no extra editions
being offered.  Last spring I think I did the same thing.

Joachim said he wants to be able to play through every game edition
slowly and
not skip past great feuds and storylines.  I admire Joachim for being so
dedicated to quality time and not rushing. It's the way I would do it.
My
advice is "just do it!"  Play slowly and don't worry about how long it
takes to catch up.  Some of the game's biggest fans are not caught up.
Mike Delve was still introducing Mad Jester a few years ago!  But he
comes
to every GalactiCon and he keeps up with what's going on.  Play at your
own
pace.  Isn't it kinda neat knowing that there's more game editions out
there
when you get around to them?  I hope so, because I'm not tired of writing
them!

I understand where Joachim may be frustrated that he can't submit
rankings
for GWF Promoter because he is not caught up.  I'm glad that he cares
enough to want to be involved.  I've recently created "mini-newsletters"
for
people playing earlier editions so that they can have some match results
and
rankings from the time period they are playing.  I don't publish these
regularly because promoters are all over the place in terms of where
they're
at!  But I hope it helps.  If you restart your fed, Joachim, I'd be happy
to
send you a newsletter for the REVOLUTION series.

Mark Ashby and I are working to offer more in GWF Promoter for people at
different game stages, but it's tough.  Most subscribers are caught up or
close and want the latest stuff.  But there are more and more subscribers

who have just started playing COTG and are in the first edition!  Mark
and
I are going to offer some "Promoter Flashbacks" and double issues, like
the one coming in #37, will feature stuff of interest to anyone, like fan
special matches, cumulative rankings and stuff like that.  I wish I could
offer more to Joachim to let him feel more involved and I welcome his
suggestions.

Joachim said that if he could only program software he'd devote himself
to
coming up with a workable GWF computer game.  Hey!  That sounds great.
I've
wanted to do this for years, but I've always been too busy or too
computer
illiterate to pursue it.  If you would really be willing to do this,
Joachim,
and your present job is directly related to gaming, let me know privately
and
maybe something can happen that will benefit both of us.

Anyway, thanks again for asking me to respond to Joachim's letter.

B.  Greg Valentine Speaks! (submitted by Tom Filsinger)

I just received the article by Greg Valentine.  I asked him to say
something about
COTG and his wrestling card.  Here it is:

"Thanks for the chance to talk about Champions of the Galaxy and the
wrestling
cards Tom is making for me and my father.

Some of you may be too young to remember my father, Johnny Valentine, as
a
wrestler.  He was wrestling way back in the 1950's and would have been
active
a lot longer if not for a plane crash in 1976 which caused him to become
paralyzed.  Ric Flair was in the same plane crash but was a lot luckier
and
went on to become a great wrestling star in the 80's and 90's.

Tom was a fan of wrestling in the 60's and 70's and remembers my father
and
wants to make a wrestling card for him.  My father is honored to be
remembered and we are both looking forward to it.

I met Tom at a wrestling card in Canada in January.  He told me about the
game convention this summer and I told him I'd come if I was free that
weekend.  It turns out I am free and I'm looking forward to coming to
Jamestown to meet all the Champions of the Galaxy fans.

I sent Tom two photographs of my father to use for his wrestling card.
One
was taken in 1951 and the other from 1971.  They are both from my
personal
collection.  Tom is sending copies of the photographs to his artist for
the
drawings.  I sent Tom a promotional picture of me to use for my playing
card.
I'm glad that I'll be able to form a tag-team with my father in the GWF,
something we only did in real life one time.

I'm interested in learning more about Champions of the Galaxy and I can't
think of a better time than at the convention this summer.  I look
forward
to seeing everybody...

Greg Valentine"

3.  FLASHBACK 2087:  Warrior Among the Stars-  GWF's Favorite Son
by Aaron Chiu ([email protected])

One of the greatest GWF legends of all time is the incomparable
Star
Warrior, son of the legendary Omega of Cetus.  Hailing from a highly
respected family that pours with boundless talent, Star Warrior possesses
the credentials of a Bret Hart, yet at the same time, he also has the
charisma and the personality that would put him over like a Hulk Hogan.
The determination and the work ethic of Star Warrior has gained him many
fans during his career in the GWF, and the following is bound to grow
even
larger in future years.
Following the tradition of his mighty father, Omega, Star Warrior
carries
the torch of the GWF in the beginning of 2087 with the revolution that
Thantos started.  As the son of the GWF's founder, Star Warrior often
feels
the responsibility to retain order in the once honorable organization.
While many promoters dislike him (I hate him with a passion, personally!)
all have to respect the time and energy that he has devoted both to the
sport, and to the welfare of the federation as a whole.  While his
character may not be perfect, he is a good role model, and the kind of
figure that the advertisers love to market.
However, with the lineage and the noble causes, Star Warrior
often lays a
lot of responsibility on himself.  He often feels that he has to take the
initiative by taking charge of the federation.  Soon after Thantos broke
the Galaxian code, he went out to form the Federation Defense Fighters, a
stable consisting of the most potent of the "baby faces."  And with the
establishment of the "new" GWF, he put it upon himself to do battle with
the Evil Gamemaster, Thantos, and to restore honor to the fed that his
father had once started.  Some would say that Star Warrior has even
developed an ego out of this whole situation, as he often feels that he
has
to solve everything by himself.  But more than anything, Star Warrior
carries the burden in which he believes he must establish himself as
GWF's
leader.  However, in placing this burden upon himself, this young and
talented superstar often gives himself a lot of pressure in achieving the
success he believes is expected of him.  In the long run, this mode of
thought could prove to be damaging for his career.  People have often
believed that the greatest heroes are placed in the stars after they die.

Will Star Warrior ever reserve a spot for himself?

4. Promoter Spotlight
A. Terry Smith ([email protected])
I am 30 years old, I am married with one son who is seven
years old and has been watching wrestling since he was two years old,
and he eagerly awaits the day that he is old enough to understand how to
play champions of the galaxy, I live in Archdale, North Carolina just
right outside of High Point(the furniture capitol,  textile capital, &
tobacco capital of the world) and I work at Hafele(pronounced Hay-fe-la)
America in Archdale, which I just started working on April 6 just last
week. I started ordering Champions of the Galaxy back in 1993 and have
stopped and started my fed numerous times mainly due to dissatisfaction
with how the stories were developing or spending to much time away from
the game and trying desperately to get a fresh start. Then when Tom came
out with the Classics editions, I would stop and try to start over again
with 2079. Then 2074 came out and I would stop and start from there. Now
I find out about POW and decided to stop and start from there. Hopefully
by the time I do reach 2074, all of the Classic years will be complete.
I hate to say it, but I'm some what of a stickler for chronological
events. I like to do things in the order they appear so that everything
makes more sense. And since I have now started up a web page and have
several people anxious to see what I put up, I will try to keep things a
going this time around, and just hope that Tom doesn't give me any more
suprises concerning the POW and throw a monkey wrench into my plans and
force me to stop and start all over again. The last regular game edition
I bougjt was 2104. I have no idea what happens from there. On a final
note I am interested in any homemade wrestlers that you have, if you
would like to send them to me through the mail. My address is posted at
the bottom of my web page.

5. Fight Card of the Promoter

PPV 11- GLOBAL WARFARE by Mike Hutton

I really enjoy playing.  My fed is in year Invasion 2089 & I'm having so
much
fun I'm in no hurry to catch up.

Galactic Cruiserweight Title Match:  Killer Queen (C) -vs- Vanity
***winner***
Vanity (wins title)
Killer Queen dominates most of the match, but Vanity comes back to win
his
first title. After countering an attempted back-body drop with a sunset
flip,
Vanity lands 2 straight "Pulverizers" to seperate Killer Queen from his
senses
& his title.

Inner-Planetary Title Match:   Splatter (C) -vs- Proteus ***winner***
Double
DQ
Splatter keeps his strap when both wrestlers are DQ'd for getting counted
out
whilebrawling outside of the ring. DeathKnight saved Splatter from the
match's
only pin attempt. A Titan Death Match has been scheduled for a rematch on
the
next PPV.

Galactic Heavyweight Title Match:   Exo-King -vs- Massif ***winner***
Massif
(wins vacant title)
Exo-King's rally falls short, as Massif wins the Heavyweight Title that
was
vacated by Bishop Hell. Exo-King is unable to continue after Massif
whipped
him into the turnbuckle with the electric shocks and then followed up
with a
clothsline. This is Massif's 2nd title, he is a former Inner-Planetary
Champion.

Galactic Tag-Team Title Match:  Alien Corps (C) -vs- the Bomb Squad
***winners***the Bomb Squad (wins titles)
Adam Blast ambushes Tongsoon early in the match with a piledriver into a
Megablast to win the Tag Titles. Comrade Terror was able to make one
save, but
was fighting with Commander Sam when the pin was made.

Aethran Ultimate Escape Match:  Masked Assassins -vs-  Fighting Titans
***winners***
Great match! Billy Jo Boxer drew first blood for the Titans when he
escaped
after working over Splatter.
Splatter, DeathKinght, and Executioner all escaped while being able to
keep
Trainer Jim in the ring & take advantage of him. That left Pit Viper to
face
former teammates Lord Nexus, Pulsar & Trainer Jim. Lord Nexus escaped,
followed by Pulsar. Both put a beating on their former friend, and that
left
Trainer Jim & Pit Viper. Both men were worn-out when pit Viper finally
managed
to escape, giving the victory to the Assassins. All Assassins escaped the
cage
from Trainer Jim

HeavyMetal Title Match:  Wolf (C) -vs- Bounty Hunter ***winner***  Bounty
Hunter (wins title)
Wolf dominates the early part of the match before Bounty Hunter put some
serious hurt on the Ani-Man. Several "Hunter's Claws" lead him to
victory.
After escaping the cage, Bounty Hunter calls for Reynard B. Gulie. Both
Gulie
& Hunter climb to the top of the cage and perform Double-DeathJumps on
Wolf's
hands. The seriousness of Wolf's injuries is not known at this time.

Galactic Universal Title Match:  Thantos (C) -vs- Bishop Hell
***winner***
Thantos crushes Bishop Hell to retain the title. After a brief attack,
Bishop
Hell gets hurt by a Satanic Skull Smasher & then finished by a sleeper
hold. A
dominating performance by the champion. Afterwards Bishop Hell accussed
Thantos of drugging him before the match. A possible re-match may be
coming.

6. Rankings
Prime Wrestling Federation by Joe Jaczewski

This is my most recent federation and these are my most recent Rankings.
There are 40 men in my league (no managers or women) and that means if I
want someone new to go in, I have to take someone out which keeps it very
competitive.  Between each Ranking, I have 5 cards (10 matches per card)
and one Supercard where every wrestler is involved!  Then I have the
Press Conference and every other one, my stables change.  I love to
change to stables-it's probably my most favorite part!

[* means he was created by me; I have the most current cards for all
these wrestlers]

It is two and a half pages so there is no way I could print it here!
Along with it, I will send a list of my wrestlers, but everything else is
pretty much self-explanatory, especially with the above Rankings.

7. New Matches/Charts!
A.  War of Attrition Match by Aaron Chiu

I know, I stole the name from the WWF, but I couldn't think of any other
name!

Scaffold match:
This is a tag team match similar to the match that the Midnight Express
had
with the Rock 'n Roll Express in the late 80s.  The purpose of the match
is
for a tag team to remain as the only ones left in the ring.
-this match follows Titan Death Match rules with no
disqualifications and
no count-outs.
-the rules run as a normal tag team match with two opponents
fighting at a
time.  Assume the other two are fighting in the ring as well.
-when a player rolls an <<out of ring>> or a PIN, assume that the
opponent
has been tossed out.  The other team then starts to double-team the
remaining opponent.
-when the handicapped wrestler reaches an offensive level of two
or
higher, then he has the option of either continuing on offense, or
allowing
his partner to reenter the ring.  The partner enters and attacks on level
one offense.
-I don't allow PIN saves when I use this match, just to make
things
easier, but this is up to you.

The teams can have more than two members on a side, six- or eight-man tag
matches work great.  When a defensive wrestler regains on offense, only
one
of his partners (your choice) can re-enter the ring.  However, if he or
his
partner fall back onto defense, and then resurge on offense, the other
partner can come back inside in the usual manner.  (FOR EXAMPLE:  The
Gladiators are facing the AniMen of Andromeda.  Incredible Badger and
Reptillo have already been tossed out of the ring.  If Battering Ram
makes
a comeback on level two offense, he can allow one of his partners to
enter
the ring, say Badger.  However, if Massacre regains the advantage and
starts to mount an offense on Battering Ram, Reptillo can enter the ring
only when Battering Ram can reach level 2 offense again.)  Of course, the
wilder possibilities come when you start adding ten- and twenty- man
teams
to create a "gang rumble" type feel.  Heck, make it a whole GWF vs. CPC
war!  The possibilities are endless!

Just wanted to let everyone know about my new Champions of the Galaxy
website.  It can be located under:
http://www.angelfire.com/pa/slammaster/index.html
It is called the Deimos Intergalactic Resource Center, and I'm hoping for
it to function as a
library for creative angles used by GWF promoters (a great help for the
new
CotG fans who are unsure where to go with their feds, I always wished
there
was something like this when I started playing.)  If anyone's got some
creative angles of their own, send it to me via e-mail, and I'll post it
on
my page.  Talk to y'all later.

9. Closing Comments

WOW!  I am really proud of what NG has accomplished.  Right now
there are more Sections-9, almost the big 10!- than ever before!  I hope
you feel the same pride as you are just as vital NG as me!  Without the
dedication and hard work (I hate that word.  How about hard fun?!) that
you have provided, NG could never have come this far.  I dennounce what I
said in Issue 12 as everyone has shown their true colors and submitted
many things.  I just want to say thank you to everyone.  I am thinking of
making another contest now.

Ty States had a good idea that I thought Tom might even want to use on
his web site!  Here it is:

"Joe, I just thought of something maybe you'd like to do in your next
issue of the newsletter. Ask everyone to send you a note if they are
going to Galacticon in July. Then in the issue after that, run the list
of everyone who's going. See how many netizens will be making the trek to

Jamestown. I am riding up with Mark Ashby and his brother or someone. I
think someone else as well, so there is four of us. I'm also going to the

Great American Bash in June with Mark. Just an idea, let me know what you

think."

So tell me if your going and anything about it (if you're setting up a
table, etc.)  so I can print them next issue!  I would like to go and did
have plans of going, but my brothers' wedding was switched.  DEFINITELY
NEXT YEAR!

One last idea, I believe that most of you are seeing much differently
than what I am seeing.  Lines are wrapping and sometimes it gets really
screwed up.  Next Issue, I will turn to Courier 9 (yes, typewriter) font
so that I can better line things up.  Arial does't work as well and I
hope that Courier 9 will work better.  Please tell me if next issue is
better.

Well, I wish I could come up with some to close like Tom says, "Keep the
dice hot!"  I am working on it, but until then, keep those keyboards
klacking (is that a word?  O'well, you know what I mean)!

Sincerely,

Joe Jaczewski
