Reggie Lewis a man who was Mr. NeXt. He could he kill a guy on the court, than help get his family a head start off the court. Reggie Lewis was what the NBA wanted, a superstar, who was giving to the community, and was looked up to by millions. Everything was going on like the a true rags-to-richs story his life was, untill it was taken from him.
Reggie Lewis grew up in Baltimore, Maryland where he lived in the Cecil-Kirk Housing Projects. Reggie was a quiet person who kept to himself. His dad divorced with his mom, and he lived most of his life with 1 parent. Reggie enjoyed playing baseball,football whatever int the streets of Baltimore, where his mother always watched over him. Reggie never had much interest in basketball untill his brother, Irvin started takin him to courts mainly, because of his height. Reggie joined a Rec league where he played with Dale WIngate, and played their rivals Laffetye Court represented by Muggsy Bogues and Reggie Williams. Lewis played on the Dunbar Poets High School teamm along with Dale Wingate, Muggsy Bogues,and Reggie Williams where they went undefeated 3 years in a row. Although the team succeeded Reggie wasnt satisfied, because he felt he shouldve been a starter.
When Reggie's high school days were over he was recruited by Northeastern where, he became a star and gainedd a mild amount of fame. Reggie and his friend/teamate, Andre would attend Celtic games. The thng was they HATED the Celticss, and were Laker fans. They were always instant enemies whenever they went to a game cheering agaisnt Boston's beloved Celtics. After One Celtic victory, Reggie and Andre where pelted by cups thrown at him by rowdy Celtic fans.
Reggie was selected by who else, but the Boston Celtics in the NBA draft. When telling his long tim Cetic Hater friend, Andre, what he thought he said,"Good Team". The Celticss were a good team under the leadership of Larry Bird, Reggie gained more knowlegment of the game. Despite all this, Reggie was still unhappy with his playing time. Reggie's chance occured when Layy Bird announced his retirement. From there Reggie became the talk of the NBA. Reggie's ppg(points per game averege) rose from 4.5 to 17, untill it finally reached 20.6. In a game against the Bulls Reggie was matche dp against Micheal Jordan, Reggie scored 33 points, while grabbing four assists and six rebounds.
Reggie was a hero off and on the court. Reggie who noticed his mother had a drug problem, sent her into succesfull rehab. Reggie would give out turkeys in Cetic bags for charity during thanksgiving. Reggie's first year in the NBA he organized a min-shopping spree for all the kids in his family. One time when he returend to his car he was attacked by kids with squirt guns. Reggie dodged the kids and went into a store. When he came out he was carrying two pistols for two kids he noticed didnt have any.
In 1993, Reggie was preparing for a playoff series where he would face his old high school teamates Muggsy Bogues, and David Wingate, who played for the Charolette Hornets. When the first game started, Reggie scored 17 points in 13 minutes! Little did he know though, that that wol d be his fnals points of his life. Reggie started feeling dizzy and went the grond looking dazed. He asked the coach to bench wich he did.
After the game Reggie was sent to treatment. The first test where vry negitive and said it was VERY unlikely for Reggie to play again, because of a bad heart. Reggie was frequently asked if he did any kind of drugs, if he did thye could easily find and solve the problem and end this ordeal, but Reggie each time had the same answwer, "no". Reggie switched doctors. These doctors were much more re-assuring and Reggie felt good that was play again. Reggie was lookin was practicing his shot, when he studied the hoop, shot....that shot would be his final shot he ever took, Reggie Lewis died shortly after on July 27, 1995 at 7:30 pm.
