The Website,
Scoring Rules, and Other Rules
The website for the league is yahoo.com. The scoring rules and other league rules are
presented on the website. Charter Rule #1 is Whatever's on the
Website Goes. The site acts as the
final word for what a player's score is, what the starting rosters for
a given week are, and the like. We are more inclined to adapt
our past rules to fit the current website than to force our past rules
onto a system not made for them.
Scoring rules for previous seasons may be found on the
memories pages linked to the OG league homepage, aka the Wall of Fame.
Roster
The Complete Roster consists of 20 slots with no restrictions on how
to use those slots. There is no injured reserve. The Active Roster consists of 1
QB, 2 RBs, 3 RECs, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 ST/DEF. The players on the
Active Roster are the ones that get scored for a
particular week.
Changes to the Roster are controlled by the website. Whatever is in the site acts as the final word
for what goes that week (that means I can't just tell someone I'm
making a change to my roster, I have to actually log in and do it).
Exception: If the site is down or inaccessible (e.g. Ed's on his
boat), an owner may call or email in his lineup to the commissioner,
who will check the time of the message to verify the moves are leagal.
The commissioner can not make changes to a roster
without specific instructions from an owner to do so. For
example, the commissioner can't decide to take an injured player out
of a GM's lineup for them. Nor can a GM ask the commissioner to
nonspecifically switch out any injured guys on his roster with guys
who aren't injured. A GM can ask the commissioner to make a
specific move for him, such as switch Fred Taylor with LaBrandon
Toefield because Taylor is hurt, or swap Taylor with the next running
I drafted who's not in my lineup already.
The ethics are the commish can make a move on the
website as a courteousy for a GM, but can not make any sort of
managerial decisions for him. In short, charter rule #2 is no
owner manage another owner's team. This refers to an owner
independently making managerial decisions for another owner's
team. It doesn't refer to an owner offering another owner advice
or making a change for the other owner by specific request.
Exceptions to this rule may only occur with unanimous group consent,
eg. when everyone agrees to let one GM draft for another.
Playoff Roster and
Roster Change Deadline
The Complete Rosters lock at kickoff of the first game of
Week 14. The exact time may vary depending on whether the website
does this automatically or if the commish has to do this manually.
Trading and the Trading
Deadline
GMs may trade their players and
draft picks for others' players and draft picks. The trade is
not official until witnessed by an uninvolved GM, posted
on email, or other accepted means.
The Trading Deadline is
midnight eastern time on the Monday of Week 10, i.e. towards the end of
the Monday night game. The exact time may vary depending on
whether the website does this automatically or if the commish has to do
this manually.
Schedule
The Schedule is determined randomly by the website.
Fees and Winnings
Total fees are $20.
1st place = $100
2nd place = $15
3rd place = $5
probowl = $40
The commish has the responsibility to track the dues
and winnings since we tend to pay up the previous year sporatically
through the offseason and into the start of next season.
Divisions and Team
Number
A team's number is its final
ranking by record, playoff, and championship from the
previous season. Teams one through four comprise division one (aka The
Michaels); five through eight, division two (aka The Titos).
The Draft
The draft is done in snake fashion starting with the lowest ranked team
from the previous season, moving up to the defending champ, then goes
back from the defending champ through to the defending big loser.
The first two rounds are franchise rounds where a GM can only select
players who were on his final roster the previous season. The
franchise rounds are followed by 18 rounds of regular drafting.
Playoff and
Championship
The playoff occurs week 15 and
matches seats 4 @ 1 and 3 @ 2. Seating is determined by the
website. Historically, seat one goes to the
division winner with the best record, and seat two to the
other division winner. Seat three goes to the best record
of a non-division winner, and seat four goes to the
second best record of a non-division winner.
The tie breakers are determined by the website.
Historically they have been: #1 head to head record. #2
division record. #3 points for. #4 power ranking. #5 five
card cold hand for it.
Week 16, the winners of
the playoff meet on a preselected playing field with a 3 point home
team advantage going to a team if they're playing on
their own field. They are playing for first and second place.
The losers meet on a neutral field to battle for third.
Ties are permitted in the regular
season, but not the post season. A tie will be broken by the
website. Historically, the ties breakers are (1) touchdowns scored (2)
kicker's points (3) defense/s-teams points (4) seating (e.g. seat 2 wins
in a tie with seat 3).
The Commissioner
The Commissioner, currently Robert Greevy, is responsible to
oversee the website and add homefield advantage to the championship game
if necessary. The Commissioner
decides on minor rule changes and minor disputes. Major
changes and disputes are decided by a majority vote of
owners. In the advent of a tie the commissioner votes a
second time to break the tie. The commissioner also holds
the power to call to vote on or overrule a trade or
transcation for reasons of illegality or unethical
nature. The commissioner may be overruled in any
circumstance by a majority vote of all owners, including the
commissioner if he is a also an owner.
The Ethics of the FFL
Historically, this has been a
pretty much an anything goes league; however, it has been
around long enough to have two rules of ethics develop.
First, no cash or items may be included as part of a
trade. Example: no Manning for Kitna and a case of
brew. Second, no betting away draft picks or players.
This came about as an overruling of Mike B. and I betting
our first round picks of the following season on whoever
did better in the current season. Though it cost me the
first overall pick, it protected the league's integrity.
The ProBowl
The ProBowl occurs week 17 and
gives everybody one last shot at going out a winner. It's
a $5 ante, winner-take-all game where each GM gets to
choose an active roster consisting of any players in the
NFL (so several people could get to start Marshal Faulk).
The game is won by whoever comes out with the highest
score. A tie will be broken by (1) touchdowns scored (2)
kicker's points (3) defense/s-teams points (4) final
season rank (e.g. the 4th ranked team wins in a tie with the 5th ranked
team).
