Mick Foley has been in the WWF ever since the day after WM12
and since then,the World Wrestling Federation has not been
the same since.
The first time he showed up people were in complete daze
at what this "thing" would do to himself just to score a victory
at someone he had no grudge at,no one he had ever met or might
have never even heard of.The tactics the he did were not only
strange and unthinkable,but they were the last thing a rookie
would think of doing to himself.The way he would pull of a
perfectly executed DDT,and than bang his head against a turnbuckle!
The way he would nock a guy right out and then start pulling
his hair out of his head.They had only seen the begining of the hardest working wresler...Mankind!!!
Just when we thought he could not get any more crazy,he attacks
the most feared man in the federation,the Undertaker!Not only
did he attack,he beat-up the man from the dark side!All this
and it was just his first day on the job!!!
He was the Undertaker's worst threat ever.The first time Mankind
and the Undertaker fought was at the 1996 King of the Ring.J.R.
said it best when he said "it's like a destruction derby in the
ring!",it was that and a whole lot more.Mankind got the win after
Paul Bearer (the Undertaker's manager at the time)"accidently" hit
the Undertaker in the head with his own ern!Mankind had won the
match and then started to chase Paul back to the locker room.
Two month's later after Mankind had already: 1.attacked the
Undertaker 2.caused the Undertaker the I.C. belt by hiding in
the Undertaker's casket in a match with Goldust 3.comming up
through the ring and pulling the Undertaker to hell,it was time
to do things in a totally drastic matter.
On SummerSlam 96,the world tuned in to see one of the most
dangerous matches of all time.A "Boiler Room Brawl" was the
way to settle this big feud.Once again Mankind had achieved
victory with the help of Paul Bearer,this time,the attack on
the reaper was on purpose.Paul Bearer had shattered the six year
relationship with the man from the dark side.
That victory had gotten Mankind a title shot at that time champion,
Shawn michaels.That match was one of the greatest of all time and if
it had not been for the interference of Vader,we might never have
known the outcome of that match.
More matches with the Undertaker came after that but Mankind could
not compete as well as he did after the loss to Shawn,Paul Bearer
got the Executioner but after his loss to the Undertaker,Paul got rid
of him.Next Paul got Vader to team up with Mankind,but that team could
never really get off to a good push.Soon after Mankind's "break-up"
with Vader,he had wonderfull interview with Jim Ross.
Mankind told "jimmy" that he was not the crazy psycho path that every
body thought that he was,really,he was a guy who had a dream of
wrestling,like his hero "Super Fly" Jimmy Snuka.He had been to Madison
Square Garden and saw Jimmy Snuka do a move that changed his life for
ever.Mankind said that when he saw Snuka do a spash of the top of a
steel cage,he knew he wanted to be a wrestler.He also made a college
film of him as a pro wrestler.That wrestler's name was Dudelove!
The interview with Ross got him the respect of fans very quickly and
by the 1997 King of the Ring he was the fan's favorite to win.
Mankind came very close to winning but the combination of Hunter Hearst
Helmsly and Chyna was just too much for him to handle and he lost in the
Finals of the tournament.Mankind said that the fued with him and HHH
was not over.
Mankind had gotten the first laugh at HHH when he dressed up like a
camera man and attacked his rich foe from behind.At "In Your House:
Canadian Stampede" the match with HHH and Mankind ended in a double
count out but Mankind said his fued would have to be on hold.
A man by the name of Stone Cold Steve Austin needed a tag team partner
to keep his tag belt and for three weeks Mankind wanted a chance to be
partners with the toughest SOB in the WWF.Mankind repeatedly came to
his matches with a "PICK ME STEVE!" sign arround his neck.Then finally
he got to speak with the stone cold one himself.Steve said that he did
not want a freak as his tag team partner,so Mankind knew that in order
for him to team up with Austin,he needed a change.
During a match for the tag team belt Steve Austin came to the ring
without a tag team partner.Although he tried his best,he could not take
on the team of Owen Hart and the British Bulldog all by himself,
during the match some strange music started to play and all fighting had
stopped.On the big screen a new yet familier face showed up and it was
Mankind's new personality, Dude Love! Dude Love told Steve that help was
on the way.Dude Love came out in a tie-dyed shirt and blue pants and
every body was excited to see him in the ring.Him and Austin nearly won
the match when Dude Love put a variation of the Mandible Claw called the
"Love Handle" on Owen Hart,but the Bulldog saved his brother in-law but
could not save him from a Stunner from Steve Austin.Dude Love pinned the
two time slammy award winner and finally earned the respect of Steve
Austin.
At SummerSlam 97 Mankind had finally gotten his revenge on Hunter
Hearst Helmsly by way of a steel cage! Not only did Mankind get even
with HHH,but he also got to be like his hero=Jimmy Snuka!With a elbow
of the top of the cage,Mankind Finally got to live his dream!
On a live Raw is War,there was a match signed for a "Falls Count Anywhere" with
Hunter Hearst Helmsly and Dudelove.After Dude Love said that he was "unavailable",
Mandkind had another "friend" ready to join the WWF.Who was waiting for HHH,the one
and only:Cactus Jack!A brutal match that ended with Jack giving HHH a
piledriver through a table on to a steel floor.
Nowadays he really has'nt been in a lot of story's or gimmicks but at the 1997 Survival Series he did do pretty good job as Mankind when he took-on the Undertakers little brother Kane.It was one one the best matches on the Card even if it was over shadowed by the Bret Hart Scandle.Mankind gave Kane everything he had out of rage because a few weeks earlier when Kane injured Dudelove.Mankind had almost won the match until a table was involved and Kane put the Tombstone Piledriver on him.
As soon as Dude Love made his return to the ring, a team of "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn and "the Roaddog" Jessy James had to mess with the best. After the dudeness beat both of them on two consecutive Monday nights, they took it upon there hands on putting the groovy one out of action by smashing his face with the Tag-Titles, and breaking his ribs when they pushed him off the 10 foot ramp. Then they shoved Dude Love's best friend, Mankind into a refridgerater! There was one guy left to take care of buisness (or was there?). Cactus Jack made his return but with a new partner: Chainsaw Charlie! Charlie swung around his chainsaw while chopping down door's, the ring, and almost Billy Gunn!
But after six month's teaming with his friend, they decided to go their seperate way's after a tanted loss to the New Age Outlaws.Mick said that the fan's turned their back on him and Dude Love began a feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin.He lost almost every time.After the multiple losses, WWF owner Vince McMahon "fired" Dude Love.Mick decided to go back down the path of evil as Mankind and team back up with his former manager Paul Bearer.
After a short feud with the Undertaker again inside the Hell in a cell amd a title reign with Kane, Mankind once again won the hearts of fans. Some could say that Mr. Socko showed him the way.He Became friends with Vince McMahon and recieved the Hardcore Championship. Mankind, being the gullible guy he was, was screwed by Vince and lost a champion ship match to the Rock. He then lost the Hardcore title to the Big Boss Man. He was a madman looking for revenge! He took his revenge out on the Rock, and did the impossible: Mankind Won the WWF World Heavyweight Title from the Rock!
What does the future of Mankind,Cactus Jack and Dude Love hold in store for Mick
Foley? What about Mr. Socko! Only time will tell but one thing is for sure,the WWF will never be
the same again!!!
