Meggett's Sexual Assault Charges Dropped! It has been confirmed that former Patriots RB Dave Meggett's sexual assault charges have been dropped. Toronto prosecutor Jim Atkinson confirmed it yesterday, but also mentions that Meggett still faces a robbery charge. Meggett's agent, Tony Agnone, said his client felt "exonerated," even though he still faces that robbery charge. "The fans get to see that Dave is innocent," said Agnone. "He wasn't surprised the sexual assault charges were dropped because he knew they would be. Soon the fans will see that the remaining charge will also be dropped." When asked whether the Patriots might be second-guessing themselves for releasing the running back/kick returner, Agnone said, "I could care less what the Patriots think. My only concern is Dave and whether or not he's healthy. That's the main issue right here. The Patriots did what they felt they had to do." Agnone said Meggett's first priority will be to continue the rehabilitation of his right foot, which was broken during the Patriots' playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last year. It wasn't until after Meggett's arrest in Toronto in February that Patriots team doctors recommended surgery. Meggett is scheduled to appear in court on July 24 to face his robbery charge. |
