Dave Meggett's release has caused friction between his agent and the Patriots.

Meggett's Agent Pleading For Recourse.

It seems that the release of veteran RB/KR Dave Meggett has triggered some negative friction between Meggett, his agent, and the Patriots.

The Patriots released Meggett last Friday for several obvious reasons. What Meggett's agent, Tony Agnone, is whining about is the Patriots may only have to pay him $200,000 for the injury rehabilitation payment (because he just had foot surgery) and won't even have to pay him that if he signs on with another team! He is also whining about is he believes the Patriots are making a movement within the organization to replace some, if not all, of the players Bill Parcells brought in. That's the reason he believes the Patriots released Meggett, not for the off-field problems.

Of course we all know that is not true. Most of the players that Parcells brought in were released because we either got better players than what we had, they wanted too much money, or they purposely signed on with another team or the Jets because they believe the Patriots cannot succeed without Parcells.

"You see a pattern," said Agnone. "I think everyone can see that."

Agnone will speak to the NFL Players Association about this situation in an effort to gain monetary compensation.

Agnone will try to get as much money as he can from the Patriots because of this situation. He knows that Meggett's 1 mil. contract is the most he could get for at least this year. If Meggett signs on with another team, which is very likely, he will recieve far less than 1 mil.

If he does sign with another team, he will be unable to play until October because of the foot surgery.

Extra News & Notes:

The Patriots were watching the wire yesterday to see what veterans were cut.
With the release of Meggett, the Patriots may sign a kick returner to help fill that position.
Blake Irwin, a free agent linebacker from New Mexico, was the only player who didn't make it to the workout yesterday because his flight was canceled.
The Patriots have made some changes on their depth chart. Offensive lineman Heath Irwin is now listed as a backup center, while Scott Rehberg has been shifted to right guard and Damon Denson is a left guard. If Zefross Moss comes to camp out of shape, Denson is a candidate to replace him as the starter, while Max Lane could switch back to right tackle.
