Grosheva attended the European
Championships in St Petersburg. She performed her new found sport
aerobics in the opening ceremony and attended competitions on most days
supporting her Russian friends. It is also rumoured that she is dating
Men's European Chmpion Alexei Bondarenko! Go Groshie!
March 18th '98~
Yelena Grosheva attended
The Moscow Stars of The World event as a spectator. Grosheva had
the chance to catch up with other retired gymnasts such as Dina Kochetkova,
Oksana Fabrichnova, Oksana Lyapina and the un-retiring Roza Galiyeva who
is scheduled to compete in the USA soon. Grosheva was a cheerful
spectator - although she had to intentions to compete!
February 2nd '98~
Yelena Grosheva has retired
according to Russian head coach Leonid Arkayev. She has evidently
moved back to her hometown of Yaroslavl, and is said to be seriously
considering competing in aerobic trials. Go Yelena!
December 30~
As many sources have reported (although not confirmed)
Yelena Grosheva has retired! Grosheva herself has not stated this but she
has not been training since Lausanne and has been reportedly kicked out
of Round Lake. I wish her the best of luck in the future and hope she pulls
a "Galieva" and comes out of retirement!
December
23~
Roza Galieva stated at Novgorod the Great that
Yelena Grosheva has retired! Grosheva did not turn up for the meet and
hasn't competed since Lausanne. It is reported she has not been training!
I for one hope that this very bad news which hasn't been confirmed is not
true!! Galiyeva herself has also retired after Novgorod, where she performed
only on beam and scored 6.7, she joked one day she may compete for Uzbekistan
again and stated she is sick of coaching. Galiyeva also remarked that Dina
Kochetkova may have retired also! Meanwhile younger Team Members such as
Yevgeniya Kuznetsova & Anna Kovalyova and others, competed well and
seem to be the next generation of Russian Gymnastics.
November 24~
Grosheva has stated that it is unlikely she will
compete in Novgorod now! Lets hope she reconsiders and doesn't retire!!
November 11~
The circulating rumors were NOT true - luckily.
Grosheva is scheduled to compete in an international competition called
"Novgorod the Great" in Novgorod, Russia in mid December!! Good luck to
her! Roza Galieva and Yelena Dolgopolova are also scheduled to compete!
October 30~
Rumours have been circulating that Grosheva may
have retired due to personal dissapointment after this years world championships!!
These are NOT confirmed, and I for one hope they are not true!!! However
Grosheva did not compete in recent competitions prior to the world championship,
those present were Svetlana Khorkina, Yelena Proudnova and Anna Kovalyeva.
September 12~
Grosheva recently competed at the world Championships
in Lausanne, Switzerland. She had just recovered from an injury weeks before,
and was unable to compete on uneven bars. She helped the team win the silver
medal behind Romania by competing on vault, beam & floor exersize.
Even though her scores were a little down she competed reasonably well
in team finals considering her injury. Yelena did not take part in any
individual competitions.
August 29~
The team representing Russia at the world championships
looks likely to be made up of the following- Yelena Grosheva, Svetlana
Khorkina, Yelena Dolgopolova, Eugenia Kuznetsova, Yelena Proudnova and
Svetlana Bahktina. It is reported Grosheva should be ready to compete!!
