INTRODUCTION
First let me start by saying that the artist has begun work (6/8/98) on the painting within the past two weeks.  As we've said before, Doug is really excited about working on the Southern Miss print.  Speaking as an artist, Doug said he feels the black and gold colors along with the colors involved in a football game (green grass, etc.) will make this oil painting look better than
any other he has done before.

Talking with the Golden Eagle players involved in the print, they all have said how excited they are to be a part of Southern Miss history and are very happy to have been asked to sign the prints. Marchant Kenney said, "Southern Miss was an incredible experience for me and being a part of this print makes me a part of Southern Miss history, one day I can show this to my kids and grandkids."  Southern Miss Outside Linebackers Coach Tyrone Nix said, "This print will be great, we have had many great seasons and great players here at Southern Miss, it's about time we had something to show the world our football history and tradition."

We will tell you this, we plan to make this print something that every single Southern Miss fan will absolutely love. As big Southern Miss fans ourselves, we want to make sure that it will make us all proud to have one hanging in our homes or offices. Doug is working hard to get the print released by late July or early August. We are going to have a bunch of great memories incorporated into this painting and I have no doubt in my mind you will be very excited when you actually see the finished product.

WHAT IS THIS PRINT I'VE BE HEARING ABOUT?

It was a season of accomplishment and honors to remember: back-to-back C-USA Championships, Top 20 finish, Liberty Bowl Champs, amazing plays from great players, courageous calls from tough coaches, achievement off the field in scholastics, national television. We all have our favorite memory. Along the way you were there, taking pictures, remembering favorite stories, and buying keepsakes.

Now the M-Club, Eagle Club and Vintage House Publishing proudly announce the ultimate remembrance of 1997's magical, memorable and heartfelt season. In another step towards national recognition for the Golden Eagle program, the top college football artist in the nation will commemorate the success and rise of the Southern Miss football program with a limited edition lithograph of the 1997 football season.

Douglas C. Hess's limited edition lithographs have captured once-in-a-lifetime sports memories for some of college sports greatest teams, coaches and seasons, including: Nebraska and Head Coach Tom Osborne, Florida State and Head Coach Bobby Bowden, Alabama and Head Coaches Paul "Bear" Bryant and Gene Stallings, Michigan Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard and Head Coach Bo Schembechler, Auburn and Head Coach Terry Bowden.

And now Southern Miss and Head Coach Jeff Bower and the Golden Eagles.

Finally, Golden Eagle fans have something they can touch, see and proudly display in their home or offices. To have a part of Southern Miss football history and tradition. Ten, fifteen or twenty years from now, you will be able to relive the memories of this pivotal year in Golden Eagle Athletics. The 1997 Southern Miss football season felt like no other in the history of our program and many experts already consider the 1997 season to be the season to propel our program to the top.

WILL THE PRINTS HAVE ORIGINAL SIGNATURES?...............YES!

Signing the print will be the 1997 Conference-USA Coach of the Year, Head Coach Jeff Bower, along with the heart and soul of the team, the Eagles emotional team leader, All CUSA 1st Team linebacker Marchant Kenney. Also signing the print will be All-American, CUSA Player of the Year, Cornerback Patrick Surtain, Eric Booth (the number one statistical kick-return man in the nation, who can forget the long runs against East Carolina and Tennessee?) and 1,000 yard rusher, All CUSA 1st Team Running back Harold Shaw (If he didn't run around you, then he ran over you).  All four players are currently signed with NFL teams for the 1998 season.

Additionally, look for these guys to appear on the print. First team Academic All-America Jeremy Lindley, showing the nation what great student athletes Southern Miss produces. Long time coaching great, recently retired Thamas Coleman and college football's best Defensive Coordinator John Thompson.

When we look back sometime in the future, we'll never forget and we will forever have great memories to talk about with the 1997 Southern Miss Football print. Now, these memories will last forever with Southern Miss' first Limited Edition lithograph from nationally acclaimed artist, Douglas C. Hess.
