December
Day Opponent Result Notes
1 v Akron W 81-51 Carrier Classic Rd 1.
2 v Virgnia Tech W 88-68 Carrier Classic Championship: Win over new Big East team, but doesn't count in conference standings. 7-0/0-0
5 v Albany W 105-75 8-0
17 v Wisconsin-Green Bay W 69-57 Return from finals with sloppy win over marginal team
22 v Tennessee L 83-70 First tough test results in first loss. Tennessee has been Top 10 all year. Note: I was at the game and the dome rocked.
28 v Columbia W 61-47 Still realing from their first loss, this was closer than it should have been 10-1
30 v Niagara W 95-69 With conference play ahead, they work out the final kinks. 11-1
January
Day Opponent Result Notes
3 v Notre Dame W 79-70 Orange hang on from red hot 2nd half shooting by the Irish. 12-1/1-0
6 at Pittsburgh W 71-66 In their first real road game of the year, SU needs a valiant 2nd half rally to come away with the win. Pitt is an up and coming team.
9 at Rutgers W 64-63 With the center postion in foul trouble (as usual this year) SU barely holds off a mediocre team on the road. A loss here would have been ugly. 14-1/3-0
13 v West Virginia W 86-80 The pesky WV team gives SU a good run. Watch out for the road game in Morgantown, SU always struggles there.
21 v Seton Hall L 77-65 Seton Hall continues their dominance of SU (when's the last time the Orange won?). This young team has match ups SU just can't handle. They should win the rematch, too.
23 at Notre Dame L 74-60 The Irish avenge their earlier loss. Damone Brown was injured, and he was the big gun in the first game. Not a bad loss, but it hurts since ND and Seton Hall are in SU's division (along with G'town). 15-3/4-2
27 v Rutgers W 68-54 Finishes the sweep of the cellar dweller.
29 v Georgetown W 70-63 Just like old times as SU beats rival Hoyas in front of loud Dome crowd. SU dominated everything in the first half, and held off a suddenly hot Braswell (PG) for G'town. This one felt good. 17-3/6-2
February
Day Opponent Result Notes
3 at N. Carolina St. W54-53 SU comes from way back in the 2nd half to pull off this huge road win. This team is coming together, and they will not give up on anything. Now comes a huge stretch of conference games that will determine their NCAA seed.
7 at Boston College L 65-63 Tough road loss against resurgent BC squad. SU made key turnovers late to squander a chance to win this game. 18-4/6-3
10 v Seton Hall W 63-62 Rematch. SU really steals this one. The Hall gives the 2-3 match up problems. This is a big one, snapping a dome losing streak agains the pirates.
13 v Miami L 68-57 Miami frosh (Rice) kills SU over and over. This is their first bad loss, against a non-contender. First home loss since Tennessee.
17 at West Virginia Watch out for this game, WVU is very tough at home
19 v Connecticut
24 at Georgetown You know G'town will be looking for revenge.
27 v Pittsburgh Another game SU can't fall asleep on.
March (Madness)
Day Opponent Result Notes
4 at St. John's Another young BE team comes knocking. This will give SU a late game in MSG, where the BE tourney is. Could be a must win.
8/9 TBA Big East Tournament: They are a lock to get in, but need 1st or 2nd in division for 1st round bye.

1999-2000

Hello SU fans, sorry I wasn't able to update the 2000-01 season page until Feb. I was out of town for 6 months, and couldn't access a computer to update the page. Now I'm back, hopefully I'll be very diligent the rest of the season. I have a new cable modem, so it's lightning fast to update this stuff. So here's my take on the 2000/01 season so far.

Syracuse has played far better than expected, with most preseason publications listing them 30 or worse nationally. So far (Feb 9) they are in the top 10 and have been a top 25 team since they won the Great Alaska Shootout. They are near the top of their division in conference and could take a first round bye in the BE tourney. They have a tough road from here on out, and we'll see just how tough they've gotten.
