Before You Practice, Warmup

You've laced up your skates and you're planning what you're going to work on at practice. You are taking careful measurement of what you want to accomplish. You may be mentally prepared but you are not physically prepared. You need to warm up your muscles with at least five minutes of easy aerobic exercise. Your warm-up increases the temperature of your muscles, making them more pliable and less susceptible to injury. They just might do what you want them to do!

Forward and backward cross-overs are excellent warm-ups for your lower body but also pay attention to your upper body muscles. Gently roll your shoulders, circle your arms and reach across the center of your body.

Once you are properly warmed up, prepare to include a few stretches before you start your practice.
