It is the month of February, and that means that, the special day when young and old have the desire to let someone special, know the feelings that they have for them, is near. We call that day "Valentine Day". On that day, school children will give valentimes out to their friends, and to their parents and sisters or brothers. It is the time to show we care for that special person, who makes us dizzy sometimes, or who makes us miss them just as soon as they are out of sight. But as we grow older, we sort of let the youngsters, have the fun, and we sit back and watch the joy they have. That is why I am writing about this glorious time of the year. Sometimes we take each other for granted, and we don't let them know that we care. Oh sure, we feel that we don't have to say that we love them, because they know it. But do they know just how much we love them? Why can't we say those special words out loud,so that not only do they hear us, but everyone else?
That is what I'm going to do in this column. I'm addressing this to the love of my heart, Ramona, who is my wife of forty-two years. In those years, she has always been at my side, to do whatever she has to do to show her love for me. She has blessed me with the births of two beautiful daughters, and she brought those children up to be fine ladies. There were times when I might not see the children for most of the week, because of the type of hours, that I had to work. But I knew that they were taken care of with her love, and her motherly instincts. This wonderful lady of my life also found time to take care of at least twenty-seven other children, one of whom was a member of our family for nine years. She was a second mother to all those kids, and I know that all the mothers of those twenty-seven kids, will say that she did a great job.
But you know what? Even though she did all this, she never once lost her love for me. When I would leave to go to work, she was at the door waving to me. And when I got home, she was there at the opened door waiting. This great lady of my heart, has never asked for anything special, except my love. This great wonderful lady has always been there through the good times, and she never backed off during some rough times in our lives. When we have to part for work or some meeting or even a ballgame, we never say goodbye. We say "I love you" and we say "see you later". Never say goodbye to that loved one, if you intend on coming back.
So I am taking this time to tell the keeper of my heart that" I love you very much, and I hope that you always will be that special person, who I call "My Valentine" I love you, Ramona Day.
