The 3rd INTERNET DERBY
PSINet League Match : 19/9/98 - 11am
The Firs Sports Ground - Wythenshawe, Manchester

Not for the first time in Internet Derby history "The Best Supported
Team in the World" (tm) failed to turn up with a full squad for the game
so the match started as a 9-a-side. Man City managed to assemble strong
13 man squad for the game. Normally the boys would have gladly joined
the opposing team to make up numbers, but as you can expect from a
Manchester derby, no-one could muster the inner strength to wear red.

The match was played on grass, with a proper ref making the decisions.
City quickly took a 2-0 lead within 10 minutes and were confident of a
rout until Man Utd pulled it level in the next 10 minutes, making the
City boys a little nervous especially after John missed a penalty after
25 mins of the match (well we have been watching our team play in
the same manner all these years). Another Man Utd player turned up after
30 mins or so which took the game to 10-a-side before John made the goal
of the match, taking the ball on the half-way line, going around about
5 players, playing the ball unselfishly across the box for an easy
tap-in by Andy.

Half Time 3-2

McVitee stormed out of the blocks in the second half rattling 4 goals in
an awesome 15 minute spell that left the rags shell shocked and the
blues scenting a victory to tell their grandchildren about. However it
10 wasn't to be. City began to lose their shape with the margin so
comfortable and the scoring boots suddenly deserted us. Tired legs
didn't stop United and they started to generate some serious pressure as
the last 10 mins aproached, earning a goal, cracking shot to the
top-left, followed by an excellent glancing header from a corner. They
would have made it another in the dying seconds, a shot beat the keeper
but was cleared off the line by Dave & it was with a little relief that
the final whistle finally arrived.

Full Time 7-4

I think i'm right in saying the front two John & Scott scored a Hattrick
each. (Andy scoring the other) Well Done lads - You did us proud.

Thanks to United for the game - we look forward to the away match...

Dave Barker
