Australia won this test quite easily when they bowled New Zealand out for just 174. Adam Parore battled hard for New Zealand while Simon Cook was the star for Australia in his debut test by cleaning up the tail (with some help from the cracks) by taking 5/39. This will give the selectors a tough task of changing the side for when Glenn McGrath comes back.
DAY 3
Australia continued its innings to record the highest score of the series so far thanks again to Ian Healy and Paul Reiffel. Steve Waugh just failed to make his first ton at the WACA falling for 96. Australia made 461 which gave them a lead of 244. New Zealand have began badly as they are 3/69 at stumps and need a few big partnerships to save this match.
DAY 2
3 hours were lost before play started due to the rain so play was extended by an hour to make up some time. Australia got into a little trouble at 3/71 before Mark and Steve Waugh mad a run a minute stand of 153. Mark fell for a brilliant 86 which included a six off Daniel Vettori onto the roof of the Lillee-Marsh stand. He was dismissed just before stumps.
DAY 1
New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat on a very flat wicket and they began well before they fell apart to be 5/87 before a 74 run stand between Craig McMillan and Chris Cairns. They then crumbled to be all out for 217 with Shane Warne taking 4 wickets. Australia's bowlers were helped all day with some brilliant fielding with every catch being taken with not one being very easy. Australia then lost Mark Taylor when he shouldered arms to a ball and was out LBW. Matthew Elliott remained on 22 not out with Greg Blewett unbeaten on 7.
New Zealand's day began Badly losing a wicket from the first ball of the day and then moved to 1/55 before an injured Glenn McGrath ripped through taking 4 late wickets before lunch. After lunch, New Zealand survived the first hour then lost their last 5 wickets for 20 runs. Australia won by 186 runs.
DAY 4
Australia were in a little trouble at 4/105 but thanks to an innings of 91 from Greg Blewett and 73 not out from Ricky Ponting Australia declared their inning at 6/294 giving New Zealand 3 overs before stumps which they survived.
DAY 3
Stephen Fleming continued his long innings before falling for 91. Craig McMillan in his debut test made 54 and Chris Cairns made 64 as they were bowled out for 349 with Shane warne taking 4 wickets. Australia then faced 16 overs losing Mark Taylor just before stumps ending at 1/25.
DAY 2
Paul Reiffel went on to make 77, his highest test score, as Australia were bowled out for 373 with Simon Doull and Chris Cairns taking 4 wickets each. New Zealand lost 2 early wickets before Blair Pocock and Stephen Fleming put on 98 runs before Pocock fell just before stumps on 57, to leave New Zealand at 3/134.
DAY 1
New Zealand won the toss and sent Australia into bat and their decision was awarded when Australia collapsed to be 4/52 then 5/108 before Mark Taylor and Ian Healy formed a 117 run partnership. Taylor fell for 112 and at stumps Healy is 62 not out and Paul Reiffel is 23 not out. Australia at stumps are 6/269.
