1995-96: Schmetzer played in 34 games for the Crunch last season, scoring a point in 23 of those contests. He finished fifth on the team in scoring (74 pts) and was named NPSL Player of the Week for the week ending December 24, 1995. In the playoffs, Andy only played in the first three games, as he suffered a fractured cheekbone and microfractures under his left eye during game three on the American Division Semi-Finals versus Buffalo.
Career: Andy turned pro at age 18, as a 1985 first round draft pick of the Cleveland Force out of Natahn Hale High School in Seattle. After the Force folded in 1987-88, Andy went to Tacoma only to return to Cleveland in 1990-91, joining some of his former teammates with the expansion Cleveland Crunch. On August 6, 1993 the Crunch signed Schmetzer to a 5 year contract. In 1992, he helped the U.S. Indoor Team place second in the World Tournament held in Hong Kong. The championship winning goal in 1993-94 was scored on an assist by the Crunch Captain. During the 1991-92 All-Star Game in Baltimore he assisted two Marinaro goals in 34 seconds. Andy served as an injury replacement for the 1994-95 All-Star Game but was also replaced due to injury. Schmetzer received the Crunch "Unsung Hero" award in 1990-91 ans was awarded the "Crunch Time" award in 1993-94 for his efforts on and off the field.
