The worst team in the league. Not that I’m biased, of course. Basingstoke are Bracknell’s main ISL rivals, being only half an hour's drive away. The two teams have had a long history of not liking each other, and neither saw why this should change just cause we were in a different league. For some reason, Bracknell always seem to play Basingstoke in every competition. Last year, we played them 12 times: twice in the B+H group games, then we were drawn against them (randomly?!!!!) in the B+H quarter-finals, we played them six times in the league and then we both finished in the same play-off group! Phew! Already this year we have played them again twice in the Wella Cup (a pre-season challenge series) and twice in the B+H, with another 4 games in the league and two in the Express Cup to come, along with who knows in the play-offs. Fortunately, our record agains them this year has been a bit better than last year's. Hopefully, our good form will be maintained, and they will finsish bopttom of the league again. Well, you have to have dreams!
Basingstoke are coached by Peter Woods, who is also the Great Britain coach. They are widely recognised (even by their own fans!) as being the most boring team in the ISL, playing only dump and chase hockey, and very defensively, even when losing! Despite finishing bottom of the league, Mr Woods feels that his players are good enough to form the basis of the GB team. Hmm? The Bison play in the Playground, which is a dump.
