Personal: Mark Bernard or Bernie as he is known to most Bees fans, is a popular goalkeeper who is entering his third season with the club. He is a native of Hamilton, Ontario,and was born on the 1st February, 1969. He is the shortest on the team, standing 5' 7" tall and weighing in at 170lbs.
Style: Bernie has the agilty of a cat, and the temper of a demented warthog. When he is having a good night, he is outstanding, phenominal even (several times I've seen opposition fans give him standing ovations after keeping their team out). However, he can also have a tendancy to lose it, as he did quite forcefully at Cardiff last season. You are certainly guarenteed entertainment when Bernie plays - you can just never tell what.
Last Season: Last season, Bernie back-stopped the team to their best ever league placing and their first senior final, as well as their first play-off wins in the top British league. He finished with an overall GAA of 3.97 and Save percentage of 90.2%. He also picked up a world record by scoring 4 assists in one match - a senior hockey record for goalkeeper. His shirt is now hanging in the Hockey Hall of Fame, Toronto, to mark the feat. What made it particularly sweet was that they helped set up four goals to turn a 6-5 deficit into a 9-6 lead against our old friends Basingstoke.
Career: Bernie has played for quite a few minor league teams in America. He spent four seasons at Hampton Road, preceeded by a spell at Johnstown, and broken up by spells at Rochester, Baltimore, Erie, London (Ontario) and San Antonio. This will be his third season with Bracknell, which is his first British club. Bernie was Bracknell's Player of the Year the season before last, and also won several awards in his ECHL days.
