STRATFORD CUP

STRATFORD CUP FINAL WEDS 9/4/97.
CRAWLEY DOWN III2SOVEREIGN FINANCE II0

The Stratford Cup Final saw two of Division 6 tightest defences lock arms at Leylands Park on Wednesday night. Finance II string playing in their first ever Mid Sussex Cup Final started well and were unlucky not to take the lead early on. However, as the half progressed it became clear that this was not going to be a high scoring game. The second half saw Sovereign's best chance hit the underside of Down's crossbar and despite protests that it was a goal the ref did not agree.

Crawley Down's first came on 70 minutes when they broke quickly down the left hand side and finished with precision. Sovereign pushed forward looking for an equaliser but Down's defence held firm. Later on Down again broke quickly and put the game beyond doubt.

The Stratford Cup man of the moment was awarded to Sovereign's Adam Grange.
