The Mahoning Valley Soccer League

The Mahoning Valley Soccer League was started by Don Whitman, owner of The Jock Stop, in Boardman, Ohio. The league started as a 30 and over men's recreational league, but because of lack of players was eventually dropped to a men's open recreational league. In 1993, the players decided they wanted to play more than just a few weeks in the summer. This brought about the organization of the league and the election of Harry Brockway as President.

In September of 1993, the MVSL became a Division 1A - Open Men's Division of the United States Soccer Federation. Under the direct governing of the Ohio Soccer Association - North. Since the league's revival from a 10 year hiatus, the league has seen 7 - 10 teams compete in each session, with players ranging in age from 16-55 (No Kidding). The competition is getting stronger and stronger with each session.

The league is founded on the principal of fair play and giving the youth of the area a place to further their skills before going off to school or a place to play while at Youngstown State University, which does not have a collegiate program.

We are always looking for new people to join the league, not just to play, but to help keep the league running. New ideas and different views are what has made this league what it is today.
